Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any powered two (or three) wheeler over 50cc is classed as A1.
Anything over 175cc or something is classed as A.

Class M. Must be less than 50cc AND with a top speed of 45 km/h or less.
Used to be given away free with a full car licence, but not any more. Minimum age 16.

Class A1. Must be less than 125cc AND with a power output of 11kW or less. Minimum age 16.

Class A. Any CC. Minimum age 18. Provisionals in Class A, and for two years after passing the test, are limited to a power output of 25kW OR a power-to-weight ratio of not more than 0.16kW/kg.

If you are 18 or over you are wasting your time applying for an A1 licence only. Apply for A1 and A on your provisional. If you do your test on a bike over 125cc (can be hired) then you will get an A licence which covers you for any cc that you may want in the future.
If you pass the test on a bike 125cc or less, you will only get an A1 licence and will have to take the test again if you ever want an A licence.

Also, if you pass your test on a bike with automatic transmission (i.e. moped or nearly all scooters) you will only be licensed for automatic transmission. If you ever want to ride a bike with manual gears, you would have to take out a provisional licence and then do the test again.
