Always dreamed of a DeLorean as well, still do.
    550_delorean_in_dublin_01.jpg
SuperMirafiori would have been on my list as well, as with Saab 900 turbo (would have to be black with black leather interior :) ), Lancia Delta Integrale of course too, and a Capri Brooklands, Audi Quattro was another one also.
    550_capri_brooklands.jpg
    550_audi_quattro_silver.jpg

Here's a few more on my list:
    550_renault_alpine_gta.jpg
    Renault Alpine GTA
    550_lancia_beta_montecarlo_rear_01.jpg
Lancia Beta Montecarlo (notice the similarity to the Delorean!), although I also very much admired the Lancia Thema.
    550_lancia_thema.jpg
Opel Monza, Manta too of course. Would also like the 1973–1979 Kadett (Vauxhall Chevette).
    550_opel_monza.jpg
    Alfa Romeo Alfasud
    550_alfasud_white.jpg
    Fiat 128 3P
    550_Fiat_128_Berlinetta_3p_73PS_197.jpg
    Fiat Ritmo Abarth
    550_fiat_ritmo_abarth_130TC.jpg
    Peugeot 309GTi
    550_1988-309gti.jpg
    VW Scirocco
    550_vw_scirocco.jpg
    Ford Sierra XR4x4
    550_xr4x4white.jpg
    Escort XR3i
    550_escort_xr3i.jpg

I'm sure I will think of more later

I've always loved BMW. I've loved a 6 pot BMW ever since I heard the noise of one. I attribute 6 pot BMWs to my subsequent love of cars.

I have a real affection for the E34 and E39. 520i, because its not the fastest car ever in the world so you have to rev it more and that means hearing more of that glorious straight 6:D!

Ha ... I was lucky there.

Got the Saab thing out of my system while I still could ...had both a 900 turbo and a 9000 before I got married and could still do what I wanted :D

The one from my childhood days that is now somewhat beyond reach (in driveable condition anyway) is this:

    FTW!

Also, Fuego yes, Integrale definitely, Capri 2.8i, Scirocco.

For some strange reason, when I was really old enough to know better, I was quite fond of the look of the Nissan Bluebird hatchback.

I just wanted a car that went all the time, my Dad had a Morris Minor that we seemed to be forever pushing because there was so many puddles in the roads on those days, the plugs were always getting wet and the car would stop in the middle of the road so he had to get out and try to dry out the plugs, or someone, hopefully would come along and give him a tow or we'd have to push it, pushing didn't always work though. My husband wants one now, I told him he'll be in it on his own, I'd have to go on Valium to get into one :p.

(I'm probably the oldest person here seeing as I remember moggy minors) :D

I loved the De Lorean though!

    Datsun Sunny Coupé
    Fiat 128
    Fiat 'Bambino'
    Fiat Ritmo
    Ford Capri
    Ford Sierra Cosworth
    Citroen 2CV
    Renault 5

These days from that lot the Cosworth and Capri still have the 'cool' factor but the Bambino and 2CV definitely have a 'classic' feel.

    Mine in no particular order:

Ford Cortina GXL (the coke bottle shape)
205 gti (the 1.9l one that invariably was parked up a tree)
    Sierra XR4i
Mercedes w123 (very close to actually buying one of these soon :))
    Opel Manta
Mazda 626 Coupe (anyone remember these?)
    Citroen DS

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭TomMc

I'll admit the Fuego was also on my wanted list.:o

Surprise, surprise, this Renault was quite a hit with the ladies too, if you know what I mean.;) The 80's were simpler times !

Like many others, and the OP,for me it was the Capri.
It had to silver though, like Bodie and Doyle's!

Ford Granada III estate, in a dark green (not quite British Racing Green). My uncle had one when I was a kid (I'm only 18 so fairly modern)

Probably my 2 favourite cars. While you do see a good few 2CVs on the road, it's been a long time since I've seen an R4. Apparently the R4s weren't the best cars to start off with, so no surprise that they can't be found anymore.

My uncle used to drive a Renault 4, as did the postman (in van form of course!) not quite the same as a 4cv, but brings back memories! A lot of P&T vans were Renaults too.
Can never say I dreamt of owning one though!

This is very odd. The system won't let me spell FIAT correctly, ie all in block capitals. Does anyone know why?

There is a 'No shouting' feature on vBulletin 3.6.8 and the admins have switched this on. If you have even one lowercase letter in the postd it will allow you to write FIAT but if it's all uppercase and numbers then you are 'shouting' so it 'lowers the volume' so to speak/type :D

There was a dealership for these I passed on my paper round. I used to beg brochures and posters and cover my schoolbooks in them.

Also had a thing for Rover SD1 and Dolly Sprints

    Ford Sierra Liftback
    Ford Capri
    Mercedes 190e cosworth
    80's Mercedes Sl...

I'm fascinated at the amount of people who pick the Capri!

I actually never took any notice of them when I was young. They grew on me since though and I own one.

Peoples fond memories sort of explains the reaction I get when driving it.

Here's a few pics for any of you who like the SD1. I have a few more posters somewhere that I intend to scan at some stage. My scanner wasn't big enough to get everything in but still, the livery, the imagined sounds, the thought of where those people are now, but especially the sepia toned colours make me very nostalgic for a time that seems long gone now.

When I was a kid I was always obsessed with jeeps and always wanted a Pajero. Thinking about it it's kind of strange when everyone here was hankering after Capris, TR7s, BMWs and Cosworths I was lusting after an old farmers jeep! I'm only 21 so something like an Impreza turbo would have been more normal!

Completely forgot about this one! When I was really young, my uncle in the UK had a white Datsun Bluebird 1.8 Coupe that he used to bring home, it was the business as it had a spoiler (!) frameless windows, proper opening rear windows, no pillar between the front and back windows and an electric aeriel.
    this shape
    d7_19.JPG

looked so much sleeker in my head before I googled it!

A friend of my dad had one of the 6 1.5 twin cams that were built. Came over one day and took me for a spin - I was hooked. 0-60 quicker than a 4x4 Sierra Cosworth.

Closest I got (so far) was this (black roof and more aluminium on the side):

another vote for the Capri here. I think that had a lot to do with seeing Bodie & Doyle haring around after the bad guys in their Capri's.

I remember also a neighbour across the road had this Datsun Cherry and it looked like a rocket ship to my young eyes:
