Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. While scooting over to see SundIrelend v Fulham yesterday, I nipped in to St. James' park in Newcastle to do the stadium tour. I have to say it was spectacular. You see the executive seats, the stadium, the dressingroom (I had a relax for a couple of minutes in Shay Given's seat :D ) and you get to sit for a photo in Sam Allardyces seat on the bench.

Just in case anyone is going to a Sunderland match, the Newcastle stadium tour is really well worth a look. Just thought I'd let you all know. Its £10 Sterling and lasts 2 hours.

Im delighted with the Sunderland / Ireland connection.. Its so easy to head over there for matches for the day.. and the airport in Newcastle is so chilled out and well organised.

Christ I sound like a tourist marketer for the Newcastle tourist board.

Anyway... great craic all round. :D

Here's Michael Owen's seat in the dressing room..

i dont see the problem - i'd go see a sunderland game if the package was cheap enough, who cares? I've been to see Arsenal - Villa and I dont support either of them, I have a United friend that comes with a few of us to see the Liverpool derby every year.

Ah dont worry about Ziggy, its probably just a lack of oxygen going to his brain from all the time spent down in the coal shafts with the other Geordies or maybe too much Newcastle Brown Ale tonight?

    Ah stop the moaning.

Im a sports fan that got free tickets to the match. Im not a fan of any club in particular, but I did enjoy the stadium tour, the atmosphere in the Sunderland stadium for the match, and the general craic meeting the fans. I spent the match talking to a life long Sunderland supporter living 2 mins from the stadium and we had a great chat about how delighted he is to see the ground full this season, and how the Irish have revitalised the club.

And to those of you who made stupid comments.. I couldnt care less what ya think. I'm a sports neutral and proud of it. If its live sports, Im there where possible.. so grow up and get a stress ball or something because the anger management classes arent working for ya.

Indeed. He doesnt need to be 100% tied to a team in a faraway English city that contains players we desperately want to see lose come the next Euro/WC. So he supports Sunderland in the year Roy 1 AD. I liked to see Mourhinos Chelsea win, i didnt care before and I dont particularly care now, i just liked seeing the Prems greatest character get one over on Fergies masses. I wouldnt describe myself as a Liverpool supporter, merely of all the teams in the Prem i like to see them do well more than any other. If Liverpool dont take it i want Arsenal to do it, its their time. Im generally liking Man City this year. Im not a Reading fan, but i like to see Doyle and Hunt knock a few in. And, with him being Irish, i like to see Keanes team do well, at least stay out of relegation. Most lads weekends to Milan, Madrid or Barca will incorporate going to a match where the lads will cheer on the local team despite not having a clue where they stand in the domestic league.

Before last season Newcastle were still the 7th most successful club in England, ahead of Chelsea, based on the all time English trophy winners table. So fúck off with all yer trophy cabinet jokes!

And yes, St. James' Park is a fantastic stadium. The best thing about it is it's one of the few stadiums in England that's bang in the city center, and sits on top of a hill which looms large as you're approaching Newcastle. The Stadium of Light on the other hand is out in the middle of nowhere.

What are you on about ? It's right in the middle of Ichicore. Cant get much more central than that.

It really is no wonder that Irish fans of premiership teams have such a bad name across the water :(

Showed up at St. Marys on a Friday earlier this year looking to do the tour with a few mates. Turned out we had to book it, but the security guard was an absolute legend, brought us in and showed us all around both dressing rooms, the kitmans room (was amazing for those of you who like jersey collections, he had almost everything in there) and out onto the pitch.

Best part of the "tour" was the psychology used in the away team dressing room.

    1. The ceiling was much lower than the home teams, and was painted black.
    2. The benchs had no "corners" for people to sit in.
    3. There were only 10 showers, rather than 11.
    4. The mirrors on the back of the toilet cubicle doors were angled so you had to look at "yourself" whilst sitting on the toilet...

Absolutely weird stuff, there were some other things as well, but fascinating.

We had no complaints I have to say. The guy who showed us around St.James' was in his late 70's and had seen his first game there in 1934. He knew loads of little bits of extra info that made it very very interesting.

As for the psychology of dressing rooms, I've heard before (not sure if its true) that there was never any hot water in the showers of the away dressing room in Landsdowne Road! :D

In terms of supporting a club, I dont support any club. I like watching soccer.. or rugby.. or whatever theres a crowd at.

So as for destroying an already bad Irish reputation in the premiership.. I dont think we did it any damage to be honest.

I don't see the point in that. Surely the whole idea is to psyche the opposition out before they come out onto the field, thus giving the home team the upper hand from the off. What difference does it make if the away team have to have a cold shower after the match.

How about having an open coffin in the middle of the dressing room floor instead of a treatment bench? :D
