Hi folks just wondering if vista is known to access hard drive more than xp.
My new rigs blue HD light seems to be flashing a lot even when pc is idle on desktop and while gaming etc.
The machine is very fast and no problems ,just wondering if this HD activity is vista doing something in the background?
More curiousity than a problem :)

Ya, the indexing service in vista can eat the crap out of hard drives, ya can disable it if its bothering u, will just slow down your searches on hd's. Also u may have noticed that vista has an auto defrag setting.

If it's a new machine it'll take a while to fully index, but once that is completed it'll only have to do it on the fly when changes and stuff happen so there's probably no reason to disable the indexing...

I might be wrong on this, but i think i've heard this around the place...

i think when its indexing it does it when the machine is idling.

also it re-indexes everything, not just files you've changed. afaik
