Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My secret shame is i sat through every goddamn episode of Star Trek: Voyager

I don't know why, it was awful tripe, with a woeful cast of unwatchable muppets, aside from robert picardo (the doctor) and in later seasons, Jerri Ryans body.

God i wish i hadn't wasted so much time.

Oddly enough i have no shame in saying i quite enjoyed Enterprise.

    OMG....can't....handle.....the....irony.
Voyager wipes the floor with enterprise...not a patch on TNG but better than the retro future BS that was enterprise.
No forum poster should ever have to apologise for admitting they watch ST...I mean there was a time when that was a given.

Reeling in the years... i know. You'd swear i was ancient!

Are you mad? Thats a great show!! No shame at all!

I did use to watch pro wrestlign with my ex, hated it at first, but the storylines really drag you in! Vince McMahon is my hero!! :D

No shame in watching it to drool over Jeri, Cheesy old son, we've all done it. I had a Jeri screen saver at one stage. Enterprise was absolute arse though.

I also watch Girls Of The Playboy Mansion, Badly Dubbed Porn and Sexy Cam. I watch CSI Miami just so I can roar vile abuse at David Caruso and fling dogshit at the tv whenever he's on screen. I find it very therapeutic.

    Last time i checked i didn't so i reckon i'm grand! :D:D

Its great being a girl. We rarely get the p1ss taken out of us about what programs we watch. Whereas a fella would defo get the p1ss taken out of him for watching such shows as Ugly Betty, American Idol and Desperate Housewives. That why they all watch them in secret or use the excuse "i just happened to see it cause the girlfriend was watchin it" ;)

Sexcetera - sex not the 'shame' factor here but the BRUTAL presenters. I really really really want to slap that eejit 'Hoyt'.

    Sexcetera
    The price is right

I'll admit that enterprise had it's failings, but at least it tried to break the mold in some ways, and it got progressively better as it went on (the Xindi arc was better than all of voyager combined), if they had given the awful theme song the boot things could have been so much better.
Personally, i liked how the technology didn't save them ever five seconds, like in voyager.

Anyway DS9 > than either. Nothing beats an angry black man starting a war.

I have watched those unbelievably sh*te quiz show things that come on really late at night - one time I watched them for about 2 solid hours!!!

    The Shame!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

Fair points on all, the theme music had me against it before I even clapped eyes on a cast member, and then when I did it's the guy from Quantum Leap; the problem here for my mind being that the actor is typecast to be a whacky time travelling redneck...and he's the captain? This doesn't sit well with what should have been such an important "missing link" between the near-future and the original ST. I also have this thing about when we do things now that try to chronolgically precede TV shows made in the 60's....the continuity is messed up, it takes away from immersion.
Because of this I managed to competely ignore any possible story arc by not bothering watching unless it happened to be on and the remote wasn't close by...
I've watched through nearly all of Voyager twice and even though scripts, effects and sometimes plot could be weak, I thought the show ended up greater than the sum of it's parts.
DS9 I could take or leave, never seen it through to it's conclussion, it was marginally better than Voyager but not as good as TNG...

yes |3loWnA we've all come home drunk and ended up cabbaged in front of that dross.
Once you didn't try and phone them, I think you can be devoid of any possible shame...

It would appear that the same person on youtube made a point of compiling a video of the winners from every night..........hmmmmmm.

I personally love the way the presenters are so obviously struggling to fill in the time between the calls. The people that call up can be really weird as well. The last time I saw it some guy gave his name as 'Tornado Tim'.

Never knew these shows existed until last week!! Some guy rang in and as a word to put before book he said rabbit* or something equally as stupid!!!

On CSI Miami tonight Horatio didn't do the whole sunglasses thing at the start and his opening line wasn't cool and obscure it was, 'Looks like somebody killed somebody'** or something like that.

So why did I even watch it??

Ha, Voyager remains the only Star Trek I have ever watched. I've seen the odd episode here and there of others. But I liked Voyager.

I also watch all those rubbish shows like Made, Spendaholics, Little People Big World and the like.

And as a girl I probably shouldnt like Top Gear, but I do, I really really do.

TOS is the best. It had the best uniforms, the most drugged up scripts and the most to teach us about how to treat women the way they like to be treated.

I especially like random extras on dangerous away missions....we had McCoy, Spock, Kirk and two unknown extras....HMMM I WONDER WHO THE ALIENS ARE GOING TO DISINTEGRATE THEN?

    *sets phaser to pwn*

Are you debating the merits of captains or the merit of the shows? If the former, Picard leaves both at the starting line. Except for Kirk's monologues, possibly.
If the latter, sorry, I'm a tradionalist...no amount of rational debate will convince me that any of the spin-offs can be better than the original.
I have however pledged to re-watch DS9 and give it more of a chance...stopped watching it about halfways through the whole series run for some reason. Don't recall seeing that linked ep.

Hogan Knows Best  - there was nothing else on I swear<fingers crossed behind back>.

Britain's Next Top Model - watched one of the first episodes in my friend's house and got sort of hooked.

    The X Factor, You're A Star, America Idol :o - no excuse I'm afraid, that's just appalling.

Grey's Anatomy is fantastic, what are all you folks talking about!!!! :p

Coronation Street is another one I watch but no shame there, best soap there is on the box. :p

I was actually pointing out how TOS was disjointed and had no continuity, whereas DS9 had a continuing storyline through the entire series.

I'll admit that I didn't do too good a job of that though.

The point I'm trying to make is that the continuity of DS9 makes it a far superior* show than any other trek.

If you want to compare captains, then Sisko wins hands down every time.
He had the balls of Kirk and the rationality of Picard.

*Yes, I used the word "Superior" in a debate about star trek.

Yeah alright that's a fair point....story arcs were an unusual vehicle for TV drama (bar soaps) back when TOS aired though, and let's not forget they were breaking new ground by having scifi anywhere but in the cinema. I like one-off shows and prefer not to get bogged down in a story arc unless it's very enthralling; TNG makes a well balanced selection of arcs and one-offs IMO.
As for captains, TBH once it's not Janeway or Archer, I'm happy. Sisko always struck me as being a bit impotent though....I mean it's not as if he can take his charge to warp 10 and unleash it's terrifying docking clamps at potential enemies...

I completely agree with you regarding the ground breaking stuff and the balance used in TNG, but the continuing storyline in DS9 appealed to me more.
Don't get me wrong. When I first watched it, I was far from impressed, but when I gave it a second go, I saw its true potential (it was still running at the time) and it lived up to that potential.

One of the sky channels started re-running DS9 last week. Gonna have to try and catch it all this time round.
I think I did see eps with the defiant (the name rings a bell), but it was probably at the stage where I was that far behind with the story I just changed channels

I have a long haul flight next year and im dreading it so its completely senseless in watching this programme and frightening my subscounscious witless, but i still do it compulsively each week! the mind boggles.
