So my old renault 19 failed the NCT with dying colours
and i need to get it scrapped. I read a while ago that it's
now free to get rid of end of life veichles and a few scrap
    yards participate in this.

Any info would be very helpful. I've no idea how to proceed.
Do i need to do any paper work or bring the logbook?
    Im confused.

    P.s. BASED in dublin

    Many thanks

Go onto the Dublin County Council website, you'll find the info there

.. or just walk into any scrap-yard and tell them you have a car if they want it.
Sometimes you can get 50-100 euro for it as well so it is worth a shot.

Rather than scrap it put it on adverts.ie or jumbletown and someone else may get some benefit out of it unless it is in a a really, really bad way.

Renault 19 was a nice if a bit unreliable car. Much nicer than a Golf, Escort or Corolla of the same era.

a breakers will take it off your hands if you take it to them. bring all paper work like log books etc and they will give you a certificate of destruction there and then. At least that's what summer hill spares did for me. if you want them to collect the car they will charge you.

As for the corpo of county council. they have a fee, the car needs to be left in a public space again with keys and paper work in glove box BUT the owner is liable of any problems like parking tickets on it, tickets for no tax etc, the county council can take weeks to come collect it and wont guarantee a time of collection and may charge you

And have some chancer driving it about un-NCT'ed till it falls apart or kills someone? Put an old car like that in buy & sell and you will have a 100 dodgy punters coming out of the woodwork.

It's a good point but they'd be doing the exact same thing with a banger they bought for a couple of hundred quid with a few months road tax and a valid NCT which have since expired.
More an issue with no enforcement of the laws of the land than the current owner being reckless in giving away a car.
But I see where you are coming from. I advertised a car for free once and some of the messages left on my phone were from people who were quite skangerish. Still the car was too good to scrap.

Just park it on a Renaults dealers lot shouldn't they have to take it back now with all this recycling stuff etc
