You can get a genuine one from VW, there not cheap maybe 300 or so inc all the fixings.
Have a look here too, they ship to Ireland aswell.

ya iv hit my sump already and i only have it few months.. if u just take care where your driving you should be fine.. i think you can get rubbers for the shocks to make the car higher off the ground to stop it hitting off stuff so easly

mate of mine is on sump no.3 on his mk1 TDI Octavia, apparenty these are even worse as engine is further forward in the car

Yep - much more common in the car with the big boot. VW Caddy's suffer the same fate on a regular basis.

I think this link will work. Just looks like a thick sheet of aluminium thats been lasered out. Id say its possible to copy the original and get a good fabricator to make it up for you.

If aluminium is hit it will just transfer the damage onto the next easily damaged part Ie. the sump.

Well that aluminium sheet is 5mm thick so youre not going to bend that that easily. It should provide good protection against rocks etc.

Actually looking at the fitting instructions (http://www.dieselgeek.com/panzerinstall.htm) it also has fabricated supports that mount the plate onto the cars frame. To be fair $275 seems quite cheap for the kit considering what you get. They say that they'll deliver internationally but it would probably cost.

I spent £80stg replacing the standard plastic sump 'guard' on my golf. Have to say tho that I haven't bottomed her out in 3yrs and 60k of driving, maybe i'm just lucky tho.
