Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A garda and another man are in hospital after they were both injured in two separate but related incidents in Carnew, Co Wicklow.

A 63-year-old man received neck wounds after being stabbed following a row in a house this afternoon. He went to Carnew Garda Station and gardaí rendered first aid.

When gardaí were arresting a 30-year-old over the incident, one garda received a blow to the side of the head.

Both injured men have been taken to Wexford General Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 30-year-old is being detained at Gorey Garda Station in connection with the incidents.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to get a point across to all those 'ohh the Gardai are muppets' people.THIS is what the Gardai deal with on a daily basis.they are out their to protect US.unfortunately, most people only remember that fact when something like the above happens.

hopefully he'll make a full recovery,

Well after the shooting of the Garda last month, and the general lack of respect for law and order that is developing, I think these assaults on police will continue to get worse until the police are armed here as in other EU states.

Don't see how getting stabbed stops you from being a muppet. Unless of course you get hit in the muppetal lobe.

It says he recieved a blow to the side of the head, it doesn't say he was stabbed

True, when you see the German Police you would not mess with them. If you decide here (living in Germany) that you want to act the bollix with the police, then you will have to return to the scene of your stupidity a week later to collect your teeth off the ground, if theyre still there. Consequently NOBODY, with a brain, messes with the police.

So, who got stabbed the garda or the other man? Disregarding the nature of the assult though, ANY assault on a garda is an 'up yours' to law and order.

I dont see how the garda getting a bang on the head is a justification for arming them.

Good point rob, but I think they should definitely have a more agressive approach to scumbags who are gonna try it on. I think it's best to communicate to people in language they will understand, and if ones chosen language is abuse and violence, then so be it.
