Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

"Yore Ma" in bar

    O.K. bear with me on this.

    So in a local bar there is a piece of paper displayed on the wall behind the bar next to the cash register that says "I luv yer ma"

    Everytime I see it, it confuses/irritates me. { I don't really know why}

    Should I tell them that grammatically it's supposed to be "Your Ma" but that the common usage is "YORE MA" and I would like it changed.

    Advice please.

    You could ask why it's there. :p

    You don't mind the 'luv' bit, but object to the 'yer' it?

    Bit inconsistent there.

    Just to clarify The Rigger's point I would like the whole thing {"I luv yur ma" } replaced with "Yore Ma" as this seems more apt

    Maybe instead of that they could replace it with YORE Ma!!!

    "Yore" just reminds me of Steve Staunton and the rest of his Dundalk cronies.

    "yaw ma" would be about right for the Dublin accent.

    I certainly don't know anyone from Dublin that actually pronounces the word "yore". Maybe I'm putting extra emphasise on the letter R when I'm reading it though. When saying "your ma" in a really common Dublin accent there's very little emphasis on the letter R.

    If they're ending a sentence with the word "your/yours" it's just pronounced "yurs". This is what catches a lot of actors out. You'll notice that the actors putting on the Dublin accent would usually pronounce that "yore's". Example: "dats not mine, dats .....s".

    I'm trying to think of an example but you'll hear loads of it in the likes of the Snapper, The Commitments, etc. Off the top of my head, Laura Jane Laughlin who played Bianca in RTE's The Legend was a sucker for it. I'd actually love to hear her real accent. She puts on a decent Dublin accent until she has to say one of the give away words. I think the voice coaches are to blame. :)

    Had a similar experience in Colaiste Dhulaigh... there were pink post-it's all over the school with phrases like "i had ur ma" etc written on them.

    I was frustrated with the lack of 'Yore'.
