Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know a way to install Java without Admin Rights?

Looking to do this, so that it can be ran in a script on some profiles, but not have it installed on the machine (so that some users won't have access to it, but users who need it for their applications can have it activated).

    I have XP SP2.

    http://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable
    Known Issues
No Portable Java - Sun's Java VM needs to be installed locally as it makes a slew of registry entries, etc. There is no way to make it portable at present, so you will only be able to use Java-enabled sites on machines that have the Sun Java VM installed locally.

    :(

I don't think it would be possible with the old microsoft JVM either

maybe install java and then try to block the folder so only some users have permissions to use it ?
or disable java in IE through active directory for some users
if you are a masochist you could try publishing it as an installable app in active directory - I'm not even going to think about how it would be uninstalled when someone else logs in

I'm not sure that that's correct.

I remember seeing that the JRE included as part of the Windows JDK does not put anything into the registry.
Ok, it installs a private, debug mode version of the JRE as well as a public (non debug) one.

With a consistently addressable network applications folder containing the JDK, and the JAVA_HOME and libraries set in the command line used to run the class/jar, I'd imagine that it's possible to execute a lot of stuff without a local JRE install, as you can in linux.

It's only the common java JRE installer that you have to bypass afaik, which sets the latest installed JRE as the default for the system, sets up plugins etc.

Can you tell us what application you need to run, or is it an internal program? Has it been wrapped up into a single jar file using fatjar/onejar or do you launch by doubleclicking an exe?
