500,000th Broadband Customer – Ahead of Schedule!

Customer to Receive 12MB - Fastest Residential Broadband Connection in Ireland

(Thursday, 1st November 2007) eircom today announced it had reached its ambitious target of 500,000 DSL Broadband connections on its network – ahead of schedule. Today’s announcement is the result of a determined and focused effort by the company to bring broadband to as many people in Ireland as possible.

To celebrate today’s achievement eircom has recognised this milestone and awarded its 500,000th broadband customer Mr Eamon Moore from Sandyford with a year’s free Broadband. The company also announced today that he will be first in line to get the fastest broadband connection in Ireland when eircom launches its 12MB trial product later this month.

Additionally, to ensure Mr Moore and his family maximise their broadband service, eircom also presented Mr Moore with a selection of "digital gadgets" including a new laptop, wireless modem, digital camera, 160GB iPod, 37" flatscreen TV, X-Box 360 with free game and a photo printer scanner and copier.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Mr Gerry Culligan, Director of Consumer Market, eircom said "We have made a huge breakthrough in Broadband in Ireland by connecting 500,000 customers to broadband ahead of our target date of December 2007. Today we are connecting customers at one of the fastest rates in Europe and moving steadily towards closing the gap on the EU average for broadband take up. I would like to congratulate Mr Moore on not only being our 500,000th broadband customer but also being the first residential broadband customer in Ireland to avail of the fastest broadband connection".

eircom’s determined efforts to increase broadband availability nationwide means that more than 900 exchanges, representing 96% of the working telephone lines in Ireland will be connected to a broadband exchange within the next two years. This includes an investment of €30 million over the next two years to enable a further 400 exchanges across Ireland. Currently more than 3,000 customers are signing up for broadband on eircom’s network each week.

That Irish Times reporter was an idiot....and eircom are trialing 12mb broadband? Now the question is why is it taking so long if the demand is there?

They trial everything fast in Sandyford so its no surprise the customer mysteriously appeared there instead of on one of their other 450 odd exchanges, what are the ****ing odds eh!!!???

And enjoy the toys Mr Moore :p
This includes an investment of €30 million over the next two years to enable a further 400 exchanges across Ireland.

The cost of enabling an exchange is now down to only €75k , good good !
