Reminds me of your man who had a "ded crow" sticking out from the exhaust of his old Volvo ...only to be informed by his mechanic that it was lumps of steel wool / mineral wool from the muffler :D

OP, try posting in "Fashion & Appearance", they should be able to recommend
a beauty parlour where you can get a 'back, sack and crack" job done. ;)

Good advice - just don't go to a main dealer, it'll cost a fortune.

You didn't run over a rabbit recently by any chance?
Sometimes from a distance it can look like a hare.

its good to see everyone is in good humour today :D

its out of your exhaust system allright , from either your cat or the back box, nothing too major just keep the exhaust clear and get to a garage for a new exhaust/cat

    yeah, don't touch the stuff.

Same thing happened me once in a 94 astra. Really looked like hair or a wig and even had copper / blonde highlights  anyway everyone at work started feeling the stuff to check what it was and then ended up with stings or tiny cuts all over their hands.

I know that sounds ridiculous but there ya go.

Classic. Motor's forum thread title of the year :)
Strange, found this though, another forum here asking about the same thing:

    Photo of the pony-tail exhaust:

Someone suggested it's the sound absorbant wadding with which the backbox is stuffed.

I think big foot may have interfered with your tail pipe last night. must have snagged a few hairs when withdrawing ;)

it is the sound absorbent wadding. but it can not escape without the internal baffles being corroded. it will get noisier. when you sound like a boy racer replace the box.

    Hi ,

had exactly the same happen with a back-box on one of my cars and its the sound deadening material,

shop around for a back-box as prices vary madly .
