upgrading this pc

    i have a hp pc m7580.uk media centre ..

    i have added an additional 2gb ram. i was wondering what upgrade processor will my pc take and will it make much of an improvement?

    from the specs i gathered it supports,

    Supports the following processors:
    Pentium D 800 series (Smithfield)
    Pentium 4 600 series (Prescott)
    Pentium 4 HT (Prescott)

    do i need to change any jumper settings if i upgrade processor?

    You can put any CPU in it with an LGA775 socket (IE Core2Duo etc).


    But if it only supports 800mhz bus it could only take a Core2Duo E4400 or 4500

    thanks for the replies,
    would upgrading to the 4500 chip make much difference in speed compared to my current chip?

    would i notice any difference? also would i need to change jumpers on the motherboard?

    A 4500 would have a noticable difference over a Pentium D in my opinion. I suppose it would depend on how you notice difference etc, everyone is different lol!


    No dont think mobo would need jumper adjustment. Someone else should clarify.

    Depends on what you do with your PC? Pentium D is outdated but still sufficent for most things, but there would be a peformance increase, plus you have other benefits like less power, less heat. All you have to do is insert the new cpu, nothing else.
