live in a rented house, with an old heating system, with nearly a different style radiator in each room, a couple of them are making a lot of noice, clicking or rattleing sounds, one of the ones makin a noise does possibly need bleeding as only 3/4 of it hot, but this evening, after a few minutes, no hissing of air escaping or any water coming though the release after opening it, any sugestions, or is it time to get the ageny to call a plumber

Sounds like either an open system with stuck ball cock on cold water tank or else a closed system with a leak somehwere. as it is a rented gaff, get the plumber

As Ircoha says, there is not enought water in the system. It might be just a stuck ballcock, or the pipe from the attic could be blocked. Or, if a sealed system, the feed valve could be off or the non return valve stuck.
If you are renting, it should be the landlord's problem - call a plumber.
    Jim.
