is it easy to change factory fitted radio:

to a new car stereo with cd player and controls on the radio itself.

the factory fitted radio shows the station etc...on the display which is a good bit above the car radio itself.

maybe there are toyota cd radios available which wud integrate easier?

not easy but not impossible either. Can be done but the new radio has to have removable surrounding panel and can be screwed on the side.

You'll also lose the temp gauges and clock from the the display, if you change.

you should be able to pick up a cd changer unit that fits into the center console, down near the ash tray.

Most UK spec Corollas of that era came with a CD player as standard (along with air conditioning ) so you might have better luck buying an OEM cd player off the likes of eBay. It will fit straight into where the tape deck is sitting and should still work inwith the info display centre.

Also an aftermarket cd player will look out of place in the dashboard.

You can get Toyota or Pioneer brand cd players which will plug into the wiring loom, there's a connector available behind the center console, 3 screws to access.

I had one fitted on my 00 Corolla, same model as yours. It was fully integrated, and only took 30minutes to fit.
Try in your local friendly Car Audio specialists, or just call your main dealer for a price on the unit. Get the product code and search ebay and the web to see what’s available.

Totally replacing the unit, would be over kill, in terms of work needed.

you can get an adapter that replaces that whole unit and then you can just fit an aftermarket stereo of your choice,. I wouldnt go for another toyota stereo, the sound is cr*p from them.,
