Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Don't know where this should go but this seems the best discussion area.

I bought an I-Pod and a camera in America this week and am wondering if I plug them into the Irish socket without using a voltage converter will they get damaged.
    Thanks Hugh

Should be ok. America uses 110v and we use 220v. Check the camera charger, it usually says 110 - 220v which means it will work for both in ireland and america

My iPod originally came from the US and the charger works fine. Mind you I charge it via USB most of the time, but there's times it needs to be plugged in, e.g. when updating firmware.

Here's a tip for when you need to plug in the charger if it's the one with the US-type pins that fold out - if you know what I mean :) Just slide off the bit with the pins - it should come off easily enough - and you'll see a regular figure of 8 type socket. You can then just plug in a regular cable from some other Irish appliance that has this connector - I use the one from my laptop :) Dead handy.

    Ciarán.

Thanks a million for that tip, i never knew it could work like that. My iphone from america came with that pin socket you described and now i can use my camera charger to charge it, my laptop cable also works:)

I also find it's a lot handier when travelling to places other than the US, because I can just attach an adapter to the three pin plug, rather than trying some daisy chain of adapters (US -> Irish -> European) hanging precariously off the socket!
