Can anyone recommend a fruit & Veg delivery service that would come to Balbriggan or even nearby?

There is a group of us interested in buying from a service like this.

Out of interest is it to do with the general quality of the fruit and veg in Super Valu and Dunnes in the town?

Lidl stuff seems to be better

I find the quality in the town in general good but looking for more variety.

On a Saturday morning a guy from drogheda (I think from the accent) sells veg and eggs from his van around my mums estate, I will get her to ask him for a number this week if you like.

That's what I was thinking too.. The Lidl stuff seems to be in a higher class than supripoff and dunnes. It sometimes hard to get what ya need in Lidl because the fruit and veg seems to vanish very quickly.

All the shops in the town have a good selection of fruit and veg but there is little variety.

It isn't the selection that I have an issue with it is the quality.

Not always but a lot of the time it goes off twice as quick as veg bought in sainsburys or tescos and I have often found some already rotten fruit down the end of the peaches or plum after I have got home.

I would then return it to the shop if it was gone off, if it's still in date then they should replace it for you.

Lidl/Aldi Irish produce is very often from the same growers that supply Dunnes, SuperValu Tesco etc but it can often be attibuted to how each individual stores manage there stock rotation and freshness checks. The low prices that Lidl/Aldi sell produce at means that they turn over there stock more often and maintain freshness that way. The bigger supermarkets could do the same but of course the growers would have to ultimately underwrite these reductions in prices. As growing has become more specialised and costs increased the number of growers has decreased dramatically. It is more profitable to sell off the highly valued real estate of north dublin than working it as a business for the next 20 years to make the same profit.
