The European Cup returns to our screens this evening. Big game for Pool, could be out of the competition if they fail to win tonight, and despite what Rafa might say, getting knocked out at this stage would be a big blow. Elsewhere Chelseas resurgence should continue and both Man Utd and Arsenal should cement qualification in 1st place. Its squeaky bum time for Celtic though.

    Tuesday 6th November
    Shalke v Chelsea 19:45 Chelsea
FC Porto v Marseille 19:45 Porto
Olympiiakos v Real Madrid 19:45 Real

Shakhtar Donetsk v Milan 19:45 Milan
Lazio v Werder Bremen 19:45 Lazio
    Valencia v Rosenborg 19:45 Valencia
    Liverpool v Besiktas 19:45 Liverpool

    Wednesday 7th November
Lyon v VfB Stuttgart 19:45 Lyon
    Barcelona v Rangers 19:45 Barca
Manchester United v Dynamo Kiev 19:45 Man Utd
    Sporting v Roma 19:45 Roma

Watch the Liverpool fans rolling out the "We're concentrating on the league" pishpash if they do get knocked out. It will be squirm inducing. Believe me.

Something similar happened before if my memory serves me right... All things said though, they need to get the finger out in the league or they could find themselves somewhat adrift, although losing Torres, Alonso and Agger would hurt any team.

As far as I know the Steau - Seville game is called off.

Milan Chelsea and Madrid look 3 great bets all around even money.

I don't think Milan is that good a bet ot be honest, they've been off kilter lately.

Besiktas at 11/1? Worth a punt?

The odds aren't appealing enough to back Milan away to Shaktar - they absolutely destroyed Celtic in their first home game...best footabll I've seen in the competition this year.

I'm going for Valencia / Celtic / Liverpool treble.....but I sort of hope Liverpool let me down:D

Wenger leaves Toure / Fabregas / Rosicky / Hleb at home.
Get your money on Slavia Prague...I got 11/2

I'll be watching this game with interest, just hope it's a better spectacle than the Blackburn game.

    Tell you what Al.

Take the bet, but bet 2c with me.

That means a score to you if they do it.

BUT, you have to send me the 2c as soon as Liverpool can no longer achieve the CL/PL Double.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I like it :) Arsenal losing isn't a bad bet with those people left at home, good spot.

I won't name names, but I won a score off someone when Ireland were playing away to Slovakia and the Czechs, I said Ireland wouldn't get more than two points :) I'm such a traitor.

Am I right in saying that,
If Porto beat Marseille, and then both Porto and Marseille beat Besiktas that Liverpool can't qualify.

Schalke are so injury hit that they can only name 5 subs. That's nuts!

    It was an assist :)

    Voronin did some good work.

Crouch's determination after the save was decent though.

Milan gonna get a red card soon.

Some nasty tackles, shaktar are bleedin awful at the back but going forward they are aweeome.

I think Shaktar Donestk translates into newcastle in english :p

Better off waiting till it's 1-2.:)

Movement isnt great from the players when someone has the ball, no one is moving off markers and looking for the ball. Options are very limited for the player with the ball.

So am I right in saying that if Porto win, then if Porto and Marseille beat Besiktas then Liverpool can't quality?

Liverpool funny defending again, this time not involving Hyypia.

Liverpool are gona win here, no doubt about that anymore.

That Benayoun goal has been coming.

    He's been playing well tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

    2-0 Benayoun.

Great quick thinking and throw from Riise, how many yards did he steal on that though?:) I thought he was going to keep running and taking a corner.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,699 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Arent Marseille only on 7? So if they lose, they'll still be on 7 and assuming they beat Besiktas, they'll be on 10. Liverpool need to win all 3 to make 10. Liverpool can still go through on goal difference if Porto win tonight and both beat Besiktas, although it'll be very difficult. Well thats my understanding of it. Maybe I'm wrong?

No that would be wrong. If Liverpool beat Porto by a decent amount they can qualify.

No in this scenario Liverpool would have to beat Porto and then they would have to go to Marseille and win by two goals to be 100% sure of qualifying. Or 2-1 3-2 etc would see them go through on away goals.

If they won 1-0 it would come down to overall group goal difference .

My own optimistic prediction was for Liverpool to win their last three matches and Marseille to only pick up one point in their last three, that being Besiktas away.

As i type this Marseille have equalised :/
