    Hey
jst a quick question about chasing walls. Some electricians chase the walls and some just mount the boxes to the wall so then the walls have to be slabbed is there any advantage of this apart from the time/mess that it saves?

In my opinion I would chase the walls as it would save time and money in the long run.

the reason for mounting the box on the wall without chasing is so that the box will be flush with the surface of the slab when drylining you need to chase them in when your using sand and cement on the walls

there are pd boxes (plaster depth) that are used when the walls are not chased, the cables ran on the surface in oval wavin into these boxes prior to the walls being slabbed. this method is only prcatical if the walls are to be battoned or blobbed to fix the plaster board.
if the plaster board is to be fixed directly to the block work there would be no room or a gap for the boxes and wavin so they would have to be chased and sunk into the wall.

IMO some sort of debth over and above some of the plaster debth is good, its ok if you are using some standard sockets, but there are some brands (MK) that have more going on in the back and it can be hard to get them second fixed.

used bg screwless range here and had no problems but in the past have found dimmers and rg-45/11 points to be culprets of that perticular problem.
also depth is good as it stops the cables getting squashed after fixing
