Photos blurry in dvd type slideshow

    Hi,

I'm putting together a DVD that is to run
in a showroom. Part of it is taken from a DVD
on the products used and the rest of it is made up
of a small slideshow depicting the product in it's end
    environment.

The problem I'm having is that the company keep
saying that the photos they have given me to use
    in the slideshow are blurry.

I think the problem is the quality of the photos they
have given me and have asked for the best quality
    photo available to them.

They are now asking me what size photos they should
    be sending (all digital media).

I think that 1 or 2 Mb should fix this problem but have
tried saving the files in photoshop with the highest
    quality settings.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks!

what size and at what dpi are the images ?
What program are you using for the slideshow ?

DPI doesn't matter in video - make sure the pics are at least 720x576 pixels in size - bigger if you plan to crop or zoom in on them. (you'll want the piece that you're zoomed in on to be 720x576). If you're working in 16:9, make that 1024x576.

Thanks for the Pixels image size suggestion.

I've used both Adobe Premier 6 and Windows
Movie Maker to see if a different program would
    make any difference.

Any suggestions for a better software package for
    creating DVD movies?

    Thanks.

Premiere is more than enough for what you want to do. The image problem is most likely to do with the resolution of the originals. If the resolution is not good enough (i.e. you have to scale beyond 100%) you'll have these problems. If you must use low res images, try another way, e.g. do not put them full screen, perhaps compositing them against a background.

    Hi Extopia,

Thanks for the response, I'm not quite sure I understand
what you mean by putting them against a background.

As it is I have a single photo with a black border per slide,
do you suggest just putting the image onto a black
    background instead?

    Thanks!

I'm suggesting if your photos are too small, layer them on top of a graphical or video background, preferably of your own making. Such backgrounds are pretty commonplace in this kind of work. You can make your own backgrounds or buy them from stock providers such as Digital Juice.

    Best of luck with it.
