    Hi all.

Not 100% if this is the right board to be posting in.
Does anyone have experience or know much about timing with applying for rent allowance? How long after the person comes to look at the house and the area, can you expect to know if you have been approved or rejected and after that how long till you start to receive your contribution?

    Thanks in advance.

With social welfare payments it’s a case of how long is a piece of string. If your case is relatively straight forward, I would say 2/3 weeks maybe? Although on a more constructive note, you will receive any payments due to you backdated to the date that you first applied for the rent allowance. That may not be much comfort while you have a landlord barking at you for rent, but at lease you know you will get the full amount eventually.
