If your aim is to repel any man within a 5km distance, then sure, they work.

the ones for your tummy's work. but tbh you'd only bother on a special occasion

Most women wear them when there is no chance of things getting to the point where the man will see their underwear.

When we think that may happen we tend to choose more appropriate under garments.

Whatever happened to living in the moment. You kids are way to organised these days.

In all fairness, they are also a way to keep our virtue in check. They are the last thing you want any prospective boyfriend, or whatever, to see. So you wear them for the first few dates. :)

False advertising in other words. The more Pighead hears about these control pants the more he despises them. Let it all out girls. Flesh is beautiful.

A modern day chastity belt. :)

    what are control pants?

my first impression, from the name, was that they are pants incontinent women wear. however after reading this thread I have come to believe they are more like a modern day corset. am I wrong on both fronts?

LOL they are not used for incontinent women. You are right in your second point, they are a modern day corset. The most popular ones in Ireland go by the name Spanx.

I think they need a name like Spanx given how very matronly they look............when deciding whether to wear them or not a girl is faced with the Bridget Jones dilemma.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭lil_lisa

im just curious for big nights out where you have perfect dresses but dont want the tyre scenario all night, ive always wanted to wear one of the corsets and dresses from years ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,824 ✭✭✭robo

I think that you pay for what you get, cheap ones in some shops will not do what it says on the tin...expensive ones with a good elastic will sort out any tummy :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭cazzy

Im a girl and i though control pants were something to do with incontenance too ! I was kinda thinking was this a thread for the older lady !
Any how its not casue im not girly - I like pink and cow patches - its just i dont need em yet.
So they are kinda like the wonder bra for your tummy but with the opposite effect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

You can also get the ones that are fairly long for the ould tighs. Have seen ads for the whole lot as in boobs to knees.. forget the name though.

    So basically,

They're to trick us into thinking you're "fit" when in actual fact, you're not...

    Oilrig,

There are many different opinions on what is "fit" and what is not. PLease be nice or if not take it else where.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭lil_lisa

they just help some clothes fit and look better, i thought id ask on peoples opinions before buying one!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,746 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

buy some. if you need them you'll have them to hand. dont' over do it on the tighter pairs though, it's nice to be able to breathe as well as appear a few inches slimmer.

If that is true, then what the hell is the point in wearing them?

Sometimes even the skinnest of girls have a problem with a little bulge here or there that makes a dress or a pair of trousers just not fit right. Makes them feel more confident if they know they look their best.

And would you be ok with a bloke who shoved a "control banana" down his trousers to make him feel more confident?

You see this bloke on the dancefloor, you look at his crotchal area, mouth open wide in amazement at the wondrous bulge on display.

You go straight over to him, whisper in his ear "I wanna make love to you my big lovely bulgy man", you bring him home, rip off his tight fitting trousers and tear off his underpants with your teeth. And then the wetness starts to dry as his control banana pathetically falls to the floor and you're left staring at his shrivelled up maggot.

So basically jules80, what Pighead wants to know is, would you be so supportive of control bananas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

It really makes my day to wake up and see you posting Pighead, i know im gonna have a super fun day!

Firstly im not that much of a slag to do something like that anyway. And im sorry to say but size does not matter. Im not the kinda of muppet who think that looks are more important than whats between someones ears or what kinda personality they are.

Nope, Pighead still hasn't got round to seeing that film babes. Its been on his to-do list since 1991.

Its a long bloody list though so it may be some time yet before Pighead has the pleasure of watching it. Anyway, Happy Friday sweetcheeks.

EDIT: Just googled Control Banana and Spinal Tap. Theres no mention of them being related. Are you drunk already Babes?

Ah so they do look their best without bulges then...

I said they feel more confident, and being more confident makes a woman more attractive.
It all depends on the woman in question.

While that may be true that confident guys may be seen to be more attractive, I'm not sure if the same thing applies to women, it's certainly not something that influences me really. Then again, as you say, it would depend on the people involved :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

If i think i look good, i wil be move confident and i know that is more attractive to a man. But not overly so that you come across in a unflattering way!

Where do women think the fat goes when they put on control pants?

That's just it though, confidence just doesn't come into the equation with me when determining how attractive someone is. I would wonder though whether it does influence other guys, or whether I'm just unusual in that aspect.

It's still there, it just gets smoothed out / pulled in.

It's not like we're going 'Hurrr I lost a stone with my control pants hurr'.

I'm not excessively overweight, but I wore a pair last saturday night cos it smoothed out the lines under a dress.

So you would like to be with a woman who thinks she is ugly and unattractive and has no self confidence at all?

it squidges around. same way your boobs squidge into shape when you wear a bra. adipose is a great squidgy tissue

For the "thick" people out there "adipose" is:

In anatomy, adipose tissue or fat is loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes. Its main role is to store energy in the form of fat, although it also cushions and insulates the body. Obesity in humans and most animals is not dependent on the amount of body weight, but on the amount of body fat—specifically adipose tissue. Two types of adipose tissue exist: white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). Adipose tissue also serves as an important endocrine organ[1] by producing recently-discovered hormones such as leptin, resistin and the cytokine TNFα. The formation of adipose tissue appears to be controlled by the adipose gene.

I hear there are items called "Spankies" worn these days.
Are they to enhance the rear or control the flesh??

It was more of a control cucumber wrapped in tin foil. Excessive. Better off to photograph it next to an airplane sized can of coke.

Pressure from every known media source on women to be thin perhaps. Or on the practical front to help make an outfit fit better overall.

the shiny new vogue sewing book i have, waxed lyrical about control underwear for a whole page. they do make the differnce with many outfits

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

If im wearing a very tight dress or skirt I always wear them, its not like anyone notices. I don't care how unsexy they look as long as my belly isn't sticking out of my new Karen Millen.

I have a pair of Spanx and they are fantastic! Beyonce, Gweneth, Oprah wear them (apparently Beyonce wears 2 when she's having a fat day!)

I'm not overweight (size 10/12) but with some jeans i find i have a little over hang over the sides and Spanx pulls it all it - they are so fab and I feel really svelte!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 848 ✭✭✭MayMay

Where is the best place to get them? And how much roughly are they?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 89 ✭✭Poppers1888

Arnotts have them in the lingerie dept - about 38euro - and they are really helpful with sizes and all that!
