Hi guys,

Really quick question here.

Does anyone know whats the best way of approaching trying to create dynamic text boxes similar to the search box on Yahoo (www.yahoo.com)?

When you type into the search box at the top of the page, and then click the little arrow beneath it, it dynamically shows you what your search is matching to? I need to do something similar just taking values out of a Database.

I think it might be AJAX, does anyone have any ideas/best way of approaching this? Also any good reading you guys know of would be great!

There's loads of components out there that can do this. If you google "ajax dropdowns" you should find loads.

Sorry didnt mean to double post. Just posted here in one forum first then seen that the Web one probably was a better place for it!

Thanks for the help guys, thats all great. Think this might be a bit tricky alright and will take some tinkering to get right. I cant seem to be able to find Sample code on the net for this particular type of implemention (Ive never used AJAX before). Does anyone know of any?

There are some jQuery plugins for autocomplete (http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins) but I haven't used them myself. Although I do use jQuery and find it very useful.

Ajax won't work in winforms. Web forms yes, but winforms no.

As of version 2.0, Windows Forms TextBoxes and ComboBoxes apparently have autocomplete functionality (that's the term for what you're trying to do), built-in. Which is pretty sweet.
