    Hey Guys,

Just wondering does anybody know if its possible yet to buy an NAS that will run a torrent download program independent of a PC??

I've read on the bit torrent website that they are in the middle of developing one alongside some NAS manufacturers but has anybody seen any being produced??

Just thinking it would be sweet having utorrent running whilst the NAS is on and not having the PC killing my ESB bill. :)

hmm okay thats one way i suppose, but i aint a real big fan of coding stuff, is there any NAS that just supports booting of a prog at startup?

Eh in case you had not noticed torrents are not exactly flavour of the month. No sane manufacturer is going to put a torrent client on their hardware.

Get someone who knows Unix to do it for you. Lazy Bugger

    http://www.synology.com/

They run a bittorrent/ftp/http download client on most/all of their devices.

They're a nice little Nas enclosure, I have an older one (DS-101g+), which is great, lots of features. The only negative thing I could say about it is it's fan, when it going full whack it's fairly noisy. I heard the newer models have quiter fans though.

these synology Nas's seem to be the job alright. exactly what im looking for thanks ob.

I've bought the DS-107e because of the print server function too.

Got it from this site seems to be the cheapest around for only €160 as opposed to €223 off komplett

    ???

There are plenty of legitimate uses for torrents.

DavKav, have a look at this. It does exactly what you are looking for and much more.

Not yet, they're currently sold out (don't know why). Was only released in November. You can't buy off the site at the mo. When I emailed them they said:
    Hi,

Please sign up with www.popcornhour.com and we will send out pre-order invitation base on "first registered first serves" basis.

Base on current list, you probably will receive our pre-order invitation around Feb or March 2008 if you sign up now.

    Regards,
    The Popcorn Hour Sales Team

However, if you join mpcclub.com (abso great site for all this kind of stuff), and do a search. They have preordered 250 for their members that will be available in January. You just got to go into the thread and ask the mod (HiJack) to add you to his list.

You have no idea how long it took to find this player! I was looking for weeks before I found it. Everything else was NDAS. Its a pity that its not a bit more portable though. nice looking system though.

If you find anything re the price will you let me know. Retail in Europe is EUR250, but AFAIK it sells in the states for USD180. Thats more than EUR100 difference! Nothing on eBay yet though
