Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I rang up 3 asking for an unlock code for my mobile. I told them I have been ringing/emailing them about the internet issues since the 17th September and it has gone no further. Problems are still present and I have had enough.

They told me that I'd have to have topped up by over €150 euro since I got the phone. I told them I wanted an unlock code eitherway. Im not gonna topup up to €150 euro for a service that does not deliver what it promises.

As it turns out, they told me that I had actually €260 gone through my account. So then they said they'd be able to provide me a code as soon as I made a €27 euro payment to them for the code.

I told them im not paying a further €27 euro to them from an unlock and said I'd have someone else unlock the phone.

They then told me its illegal to have the phone unlocked outside the network and they'd disconnect me from their service if I did so.

    1. I dont want to be part of their service anymore anyway. (the reason for the code request)
    2. As far as im aware, there is currently no law in Ireland regarding unlocking a mobile phone.

Where do you's think I stand?

You probably shouldn't have said you would get someone else to do it, that was a bit of a mistake.

I'm not actually sure but I thought the thing was that after a point you owned the phone (the network did until then), since you clearly reached that point, you should get it for free. It may however be possible that they are charging for the service (legal I would think). In answer to your question, I don't know. :o

it apparently voids the warranty if you get it unlocked in an unauthorised way but its absolutely not illegal. i know this is a hard concept to grasp but 3 customer care lied to you

what type of phone is it? it might end up costing you more to get it done in a shop

also, how the feck would they know that you've had your phone unlocked. unless you tell them of course :D

they'd disconnect me from their service if I did so.

That's actually quite funny. You want to unlock the phone to get away from their service and they threaten to disconnect you if you do.

n73. From what i gather these new nokia models can only be unlocked via testpoints on the phone or new nokia unlocker boxes. Either way, it'll be pricey.

Firstly they have no way of finding out whether you unlocked the handset or not

Secondly its not illegal to remove the sim restriction from a handset, although changing or altering the imei is

Thirdly 3's idiot in mumbai told you a lie/didn't read their script properly.

No idea what it costs to unlock an n73 but i imagine its somewhere in the region of around €35-50.
