    Hey guys,

    Appreciate any advice with this.

    As an example

    http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=791241

How much would be the very max someone should pay for this car provided everything listed and described was accurate.

I am not buying this car but am just looking for advice on how much a "good" focus like this would go for.

Qualifying "good" - low mileage for year, long nct, god nick, good spec

    thanks

I wouldn't pay more than 5250, saying that, i'd much prefer a Golf...

thanks, no accounting for taste I suppose :D

    any more max estimates?
Am thinking 5250 may even be too high. But really am unsure.

Well, ok, if i change my biased opinon, think they are worth a bit more... If u look on carzone ur talking anything from four to eight thousand...
This is some what of a nice one, but again, the price is a overly expecting...

    thanks colm

well just did a dump from carzone

1999 focus hatchback, around the country, 36 cars that quote a price,

    Avg: 5,531
    Max: 8,800
    Min: 3,700

Obvious no distinction between engine size, trim, milage, door numbers etc.

    1.6engine - negative
    5 doors - positive
    mileage - positive
    dublin - positive
    trim - positive

so it's probably slightly above average
but you'd also expect a 10% off advertised price

so 5-5.2k is maybe an OK price to pay?
if someone paid 5.5k for this car would they be crazy?

I'd say so. I wouldn't mind paying less but this sounds reasonable...

5000 if timing belt is done and it's taxed and nothing needs fixing. I wouldn't go over 5k TBH

Edit: just spotted it has A/C. maybe eat into the 5k figure a little.

It's a buyers market out there at the moment for used cars. Be patient, it coming towards the end of the year and prices will be more flexible. I would stick to offering around €5k for that car.

You could also try going to the UK for one. They are plentiful and spec is usually higher. You could probably get a Ghia hatchback (mostly ugly saloons sold here) for less money from the UK. Should be worth investigating this possibility.

I was looking around for a 99 focus but had trouble finding any decent ones for less than 5500.
I'm waiting til the end of the year/new year for a Yaris now.
