Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know someone in America and I was wondering if there was any way that we could text eachother? We tried before but it didn't work :/

I'm on Vodafone and I'm not sure what they're on but we've tried just texting, using the phones email address etc...

I don't know a lot about mobiles and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me with this : /

Check with your friend what network she's with and check with Vodafone and O2 who they're partnered with.

I am using t-mobile in the US and text my family and friends in Ireland (O2 and Vodafone) and they can send messages back to me as well.
Make sure you are using the correct code as well (e.g, sending a text from US to Ireland would be 01135387 123 4567) and then texting from Ireland to the US number would be 001 (3 digit area code) (7 digit number)

ahhh wasn't aware of that, I was using a different code. Thanks for the help, I'll make sure to try it out :D

The fact that the phone has an e-mail address suggests it might not be a GSM phone, therefore you might not be able to send texts to it.

I had that problem with a friends phone she bought while we were living out there. I actually rang the support line for her and got "Wow, you can't send e-mails to phones in Europe? How quaint" and "Text messages? You mean e-mail messages". Eventually I found out that despite the fact it was a Nokia phone, it was non-GSM. In the end she returned it an bought a GSM phone which could send and receive texts no problem.

Not so. Most operators in the U.S. allow you to send email to text - hence the mail address. its usually the 11 digit phone number followed by the operator mail domain.

A lot of U.S. carriers charge for receiving text messages so the phone has to have a data plan before it will accept incoming texts. Also some of them do not support "native" text message but go through a 3rd party sms gateway which is restrictive in its international access. You just have to try it - if it doesn't work then leave it for 6 months and try again.

Texting with T-Mobile or AT&T customers in the US shouldn't be an issue whether you're on Vodafone, O2, Meteor or 3. Texting to customers on the Verizon or Alltel works with O2 (I have personal experience with that) and Vodafone. I don't know about Sprint.
