I Bought one of the xps710's which came up on ebay a few weeks ago,and I just dont need something that big and powerful, the extra cash would come in handy too...

Im going to be advertising it on ebay/adverts next week for €1300 and I will need something to replace it....

The only thing that worries me there is the processor - even overclocked it's a little low-end especially given that they're relatively cheap. For €130ish you could have an E6550 for example. Even at stock I can't see the GFX being a problem with any of those games soo no worries there.

Overclocking isn't my thing so I can't comment on that - but for the sake of €15 it might be handy to have an extra DVD drive ;)

Will play any game at 1680x1050 fine at the moment so no worries there, no need to resort to 1280x1024.

The 2140 will overclock very well, so if you are planning on a hefty overclock then it will serve you fine. If you insist on low end though, even a 2160 is only about 20 euro more. I have a 2160 @ 2.3Ghz, small increase from stock 1.8 and no games were a problem at 1680x1050 with an 8800GTS, which is very much inferior to the GT. Right now, the great thing is that anyone who knows anything about overclocking can really afford to skimp on the cpu in favour of other components. 2140 should go up to 2.8Ghz without too much effort, but to be honest at that res, you really won't need to go past that or even up to that.

Board is quite cheap though, Gigabyte are usually decent overclocking boards but as to that particular one I'm not sure how well it would fare.. though it's got a lot of good features for that price!

I see a lot of people unhappy with those PSU's but from the reviews I've read they're reliable and fully functional, so no problems there.

Thinking about putting in an extra dvd drive Sdonn, but what advantage would I get?

    Incase the other one fails?

    Cpu:Intel Pentium Dualcore E2160 "BOX", LGA775 €65,96
    Mainboard:Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ,Intel P35, ATX, PCI-Express €74,15
    Ram:2048MB DDR2 Corsair TwinX XMS2 CL 5, PC6400/800 €48,95
    Case:Coolermaster Elite €30,64
    Psu:ATX-Netzt.BE Quiet! Straight Power 550 Watt €72,84
    Dvdrw:NEC AD-7170A silber bulk €31,20
    Hard Disk:WD Caviar SE16 320GB SATA II 16MB €82
    Graphics:MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC, NVIDIA 8800GT, 512MB, PCI-Express €221,23

    Sum: €657.22 delivered

A little over budget, but once overclocked to say cpu 2.8ghz,video card overclocked by 10%,should I get near enough to stock performance on the xps710?....I get just under 12000 on 3dmark at stock with xps710...

What do you think of the motherboard Havok?

Do you know of a better one for under €80 on hardwareversand?

Just seen the Ati Radeon 3850 256mb for €146,22

    http://www3.hardwareversand.de/8VHYzok0_lWb1W/3/articledetail.jsp?aid=19178&agid=716

Would that be better value than the 8800gt?

Its €76 cheaper, would it play the games I play fine and future titles (besides Crysis) until the midrange next gen ones come?

    Price is very tempting

Id stick with the 8800GT no doubt if you can afford it. The 3850 is really the weekest current 38** series card. If looking at the ATi 38** series go for the 3870 with 512MB GDDR4. Its priced somewhere around the same as the 8800GT if not cheaper and offers similar performance. Although I still recon the 8800GT is the one to go for. Its an amazing card. I'm thinking about dumping (selling) my 2 x 8800GTS and getting a single 8800GT. Performance wouldnt be too far off my 2 ( SLI is useless, Imo) and I'd have a few extra euro in the pocket for a nice 22" Samsung widescreen :)

HJ we tried to persuade you not to go 320mb Sli, you should have listened :D

8800GT single will be better then 320mb Sli without question. 320mb Sli makes no sense really unless you managed to get the two of them close to the price of a single card or something similar.

3870 is good value for money but the performance isn't up there consistantly with the GT. Hit and miss, and when it misses it misses big time.still a great card for people still using 1280x1024 but at higher res the Gt is far more reliable and worth the extra cash. As for the 3850 it's a great value part too but not suitable at all for people looking to the latest games on larger monitors. Wouldn't bother considering it for anything over 1280x1024 unless you willingly want to play games on lower settings.

I reckon the board looks fine. As for cpu overclocked to 2.8Ghz yes it will perform the same as the 6700 for the most part but remember it has less l2 cache so that will incur a hit in performance, but as people keep saying at those speeds it's comparing fast to very fast - the card will be the limiting factor in your setup primarily. Though for serious multitasking you will notice a decrease obviously due to the loss of the quad, in games, nothing of concern.

2 Dvd drives is handy for copying direct but for someone who's main focus is games, not a whole lot of point. I used to include 2 drives in my builds but stopped after the second drive was only used when I got lazy and couldn't be bothered finding the case for the game in the main one :D

Going to keep the Xps710,I put on ebay for buyitnow for a day at 1100 euro and no one bought it....I would probably only get 1000 euro for it and it would cost me more than that to build a similar spec one...

Thanks for (wasting) your time guys

My sympathies squall. I got the same machine.
Reckon the 8800GT has killed the resale value of our machines.
Such is the nature of PCs, I'm afraid. Console yourself with the knowledge that is was GREAT value on the day you bought it :)

At the price they were going for, they are still dirt cheap compared to what it would cost for a similar system, even with a GT.
