Thoughts on new jerseys for euro 08.

I've bought the Poland Away and the Italy away looks likely to be mine soon.
The Germany home and Spain home are quite tasty too!

Why not wait til this time next year and the shirts will only cost you ~€40. I hope you have an Irish shirt too, its disgraceful the amount of people that have other countries shirts but not their own. No matter how bad our team is.

I don't have an Ireland jersey, but it has nothing to do with how ''bad'' the team is doing at the moment. I love the team as strange as that may sound, but there are teams I have a lot of love for.

I always have an Italy, Argentina and Ukraine jersey.

You have a Ukraine shirt but not an Irish one?

I've never owned an Ireland jersey.

The only reason I can validate someone having another countries shirt and not their own countries shirt is not wanting to fund the countries FA for various reasons. I can understand people not wanting to fund the FAI for example.

    As for fashion reasons...

    I don't wear jersies.

I own a Shels one, but I hardly ever wear it.

    They are horrible clothes.

You don't need a jersey on you to sit in a pub and support a team. The players can't actually see you.

At the moment the only international jerseys I own are a fake French one that I bought about 4 minutes before the last World Cup final in Samui in Thailand (ended up pretending to be French for the night) and a US one that I also bought in Thailand for about a fiver.

Can't ever see myself buying an Ireland jersey to be honest.

You have to admit that colours do look special in packed stadiums, even other than flags. I saw a bit of the Munster match yesterday and 90% of the crowd were wearing red. Little things like that can make big differences in the psychology of a team, just look at how strong Celtic are at home.

The last sentence of my previous post sums up my feelings.

Yeah, in a stadium, fair enough.

In the pub I think they are foolish.

I know, but if you're going buying a jersey I'd like to think it'd be your countries one or the club you support that you'd buy.

    Each to their own.

And +1 to what MrJoeSoap said about the colours in the stadium, the Arse - Barca Champs League Final was unbelieveable (I know they were just cards under the seat, all the same though) as was the Heinken Cup final 2006, Cardiff was practically red.

I think my favourite was when Southampton had to wear their yellow kit for the FA Cup final in Cardiff in 2003. For a team that doesn't wear yellow that often they really did themselves proud that day (other than the dude in the photo below!).

I'm talking mainly about in Europe. Unbeaten at home in Europe in well over three years now, you can make the list of teams they have faced if you like. :D

I didn't know Jersey were in the Euro Championships. Do the Channel Islands have international football teams?

Nope, but if they did I think Le Tissier might still have struggled to make the squad!

Channel Islanders are eligible to play for any of the four countries in the UK.

I own about 25 jerseys or national and international teams, not one is irish. If they were was a jersey that was particularly attractive or priced accordingly I would consider buying it. If I really had to support Ireland somewhere, I'd blag it with my basque country jersey.

So you buy jerseys for the fashion side of things then?

I tend to buy random jerseys occasionally, not for fashion or anything in particular really, just like having a little collection.

Yeah its not something I disagree with at all, I have quite a few jerseys myself (I usually get them if I'm somewhere on holidays that has a team, I've PSG, Barca, Sevilla, Cologne, Ajax and a few more). I just find it incredible that you can have 25 jerseys and not have your own countries one, I know the eircom logo is hideous but you can get the white Irish shirt without the logo off ebay afaik.

Anyway, each to their own! Who am I to judge :p

Im just disappointed i wont be wearing a Scots one :(

Of the continental jerseys France (home and away) and maybe Holland and Portugal would be the only ones id bother buying. Already have Ireland home and away and Real jerseys (and a Boston Celtics and Yankees one on that side of things)

In Prague I was surprised at the lack of people walking around the city in Czech official jerseys, until I saw that most shops sold them for 70 euro plus  Was going to buy one for "I was there" oul memory lane purposes until I saw the cost. Considering the wage is lower and that you can probably buy them here for 30 to 50 its quite shocking.

A PSG one with CSON 9 cost me 85 yoyos in Pari

Said it'd be handy if I ever did decide to mosey along to one of those beers that there does be now and again :p

Well I've a pretty big collevtion now and I love wearing them too.

Have about 15/20 City ones, most with name and number. Others then include Ireland, Shels, France (Zidane 10), Juventus x4 (one with Zidane), Madrid (with Zidane 5), Barca x3 (2 with Xavi on the back), Leeds x3 (one with Radebe 5), Piacenza, Roma (Totti 10), Costa Rica, Australia x3 (Bresciano 23 on the latest one), Spain, Everton (Cahill 17), and countless club/college ones I've robbed over the years. Couple of others as well I'm sure.

For me it's a hobby. I spend a lot of time on ebay trying to find classics that I may have missed when I was younger. Also love getting a bargain. Have my eye on a Quaresma Portugal jersey now for the Euros.

    Orly?

There's a couple missing from the Boardeaux Kitbag actually.

    Know anything about them?

    :)

I'm always tempted to go for a new jersey myself especially the colourful Spanish jerseys but they really are a huge waste of money. I've decided no more because there's so few opportunities to wear them and I have a stupid amount of Newcastle away jerseys for a team that rarely uses their away strip. I used to play a lot of football so having a nice selection was grand but a serious knee injury has put paid to that. I also tend to change my mind on a whim as to whether I like a jersey or not so half of my collection would probably never leave the wardrobe again anyway.

Actually I'm disappointed to say I was too honest for my own good and didn't rob one. Probably the first team I haven't done it to. Feel free to post one over though! :D

And are they eligible to play for France too?? Think i remember tabloid bull crap about Le Tiss going to play for France, because he hadn't played a competitive international at the time.
