One of the best artists I've ever seen was Pierce Turner from Wexford, a great Irish singer/songwriter.
    Explore at http://www.pierceturner.com

I saw Pierce in Cork a few years ago. Brilliant he was! He was dancing up on tables and all sorts. Peter Broderick does this sort of thing too. It takes this whole 'interacting yourself with the crowd' to a different level.

Indulge my nerdy needs here for a second, where and when? And how awesome were they each time, on a scale of fail to Win?

I think you'll find you were at at least 3 of them with me! But ok, in order (but can't be arsed looking up exact dates):

    2005:
    Rock en Seine Paris
    2007:
    Olympia Dublin
    Olympia Dublin
    Oxegen Punchestown
    Latitude Suffolk
    Phoenix Park Dublin
    Phoenix Park Dublin
    SECC Glasgow
    Metro Radio Arena Newcastle
    Cardiff International Arena Cardiff
    Nottingham Arena Nottingham
    Columbiahalle Berlin
    Gasometer Vienna
    Tonhalle Munich
    Alexandra Palace London
    Alexandra Palace London
    Alexandra Palace London

Also had a ticket for Manchester but wussed out last minute. As for ratings, they were all well worth going to, great live band, but the ones that really stood out were Rock en Seine 2005, Newcastle (great setlist), and Berlin. And the suckiest by a long way was Oxegen. ;)

    Oasis, Kasabian (Slane this year)
Prodigy (4 or 5 times, normally twatted so can't remember exactly how many)
    Metallica
    Faithless (Creamfields 2002?)
    Motorhead (Bulldog Bash, UK)
Status Quo (Bulldog Bash, brutal.. hate them but friends made me go)
Ocean Colour Scene (Indiependence festival last weekend)
    Kaiser Chiefs
    Chemical Brothers
    Kings of Leon
Amy Winehouse (on the barrier at Oxygen, surprisingly good)
    Newton Faulkner
    Counting Crows
Tracy Chapman (free tickets, thats why!!)
Pink (not mad about her music, but she's a sexy bitch)
UB40 (never seen so many knackers in one place)
    The Wailers (supporting UB40, Class)
Dragonforce (went because friends were going, very good)
    The Fureys

If we were including big name DJs, I'v seen just about every one of them.... Went through a phase (2000-2005) of travelling the country to see whatever good DJ was on.... Tiesto, Oakenfold, Mauro Picotto, Lisa Lashes, Lisa Pin-Up, Carl Cox, Eddie Halliwell, Fergie, Sister Bliss etc. etc.

In fairness to me, was going to these dance 'gigs' before the scobes got in on the scene. And there were a lot of drugs involved as well:cool:.......
Would'nt go across the road to see one of these DJs now!!

Saw him at the marquee in Cork last year. He was really good! I was only tagging along with someone but ended up being very impressed by the end of the gig :)

Only counting concerts & festival headliners (no gigs or wee bands like the Blizzards or Bell XI, etc.) And only shows in Ireland

Top 5 (not favourite band but shows) would be:

    Pearl Jam (2006)
U2 (2005, thought 360' was sh1t poor compared to the last 2 tours)
    Pixies (2005)
    Metallica (2005)
    Primal Scream (2009)

    Other Top quality gigs:

    Rage Against The Machine (2008)
    The Who (2006)
    Groove Armada (2005)
    Simple Minds (2006l)
    The Prodigy (2008)
Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club (2006)
    Leonard Cohen (2008)
    The Frames (2005)

Random other ones that come to mind:

    The Charlatans (2008)
    David Gray (2007)
James Brown (2006, his last performance b4 he passed i believe)
    Bruce Springsteen (2009)
    Tom Waits (2009)
    Bryan Adams (2006)
    Slipknot (2005)
Stunning (2006 was the best one i suppose)
    Thin Lizzy (2004)
    Snow Patrol (2005)
    REM (2008)

Disappointing + sh1t ones IMO (not the bands just the concerts):

Ian Brown (2008, just poor from i one i expected greatness)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2005 utter sh1t, left during the first encore, although i hear the previous two years they were class)
White Stripes (2006, one guitar & a crap drummer just don't cut it live)
Sonic Youth (2006, a band i loved :( played catatonic noise and nothing else)
Bob Dylan (2005 crap, plain simple, he didn't want to be there had his back to the crowd)
    Jose Gonzales (2008, snooze fest)
Placebo (2006, i actually think their music is poor so it would be unfair to comment justly but my mates who were fans said it was poor)
Damien Rice (2009, useless plain & simple, told the crowd to shut up when they were singing along at one point)
Ash (2006, no life in them, poor setlist)
Muse (2006, €45 for an hour and 10 minutes when i had just seen Pearl Jam in the same venue for nearly 3 hrs a month or two earlier)
    :D

Blur 1997, Point Depot. Great gig.

    Blur 2003 I think, Olympia.

Verve 1998, Slane. + Manic Street Preachers.

Bloodhound Gang! 2004 I think, TBMC

    Metallica, 2000, Point Depot.

    Juniper (Damien Rice/Bell X1) 1998, Olympia.

Deftones, forget the venue, 2005...somewhere in Dublin.

And many, many other small shows with not so famous bands.

*the above dates are approximations.....I'm terrible with dates.

The first was Slade, in the National Stadium. The best was Roger Waters in the Marquee, though Massive Attack were great in the same venue. John Cale in the early '80's, Souixe and The Banshees, Dr Feelgood, Genesis with Peter Gabriel (supporting Lindesfarne), the Rats, The Radiators From Space, John Cooper Clarke, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Clash, Roogalator etc etc.

Any idea when Slade played in The National Stadium? I believe it was early 70's. It crops up in a book Im working on. Would be very grateful if anyone knows

Two great gigs last year - Teenage Fanclub at the Academy in Dublin and Belle & Sebastian at the Grand Canal Theatre in December. Fond memories of Trash Can Sinatras at Whelans on a couple of occasions, Elvis Costello solo at the National Stadium in 1996, and Billy Bragg on 4 or 5 occasions(Vicar St and The Olympia).
