Thinking about upgrading my old (feels so weird calling my baby old, it was only out a week when i bought it :-( ) graphics card, my X850XT will just not cut it anymore! really want to play Colin McRae DIRT, so looking at the best value/budget card,

    8800GT http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=343127 for €179

    OR

    HD 3850 http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=342319 for €155

    OR

    somthing else?

    Whats your cpu?

Dirt is pretty heavy on the cpu,I played it on a E6550 2.33ghz and it pushed it very hard...

I wouldnt buy that xfx 256mb 8800GT as the clocks are quite low 600/1400mhz in that model...

Scan uk have the super clocked (675/1950) 8800gt which should beat the ass of the HD3850 for under €200 delivered...

It will run Dirt with ease...

Yeah unless money is tight I would go with the GT, destroys the 3850 for a little bit extra, though in most cases it's a case of fast vs faster, rather then unplayable vs playable, but why not get the best you can afford. The superclocked version isn't a bad idea, though it is edging to within 30-ish euro of the 512mb price, which frankly is the better option by a long shot for the latest games.

But if you're more concerned with budget, I would stick with the stock 256mb GT for 179 and overclock it yourself, otherwise you're drifting out of the value for money zone given the 256mb of ram is going to limit you no matter what.

Do you think the xfx 8800gt for 179 will overclock well Havok?

Do you think it can reach stock level 512mb clock speeds?

Would certainly go for the 512mb card....some new games like crysis and bioshock are better with the larger frame buffer.....I ordered a 8800gt off pixmania but its out of stock for the time being....I am not a patient man and the wait is killing me....I have a copy of crysis sitting on top of my pc doing nothing.....sigh

Well i got a E4500 but its running at 2.7GHz so should be a good bit faster than the E6550

Thats a good point, both of these cards are much much faster than my X850XT , so would either if them be able to play the liks of Colin McRae DIRT and Crysis on max settings @ 1280x1024?
