The aforementioned introduced me to both Opeth and Gojira...2 bands which have changed my entire outlook on music ( for the better :D ).

And ever since I have been looking for bands with similar style, without crossing over into the realm of **** death metal.

    Anyone got any ideas???

Morbid Angel. I introduced them to KH and some ignorance (towards death metal bands) hindered him from listening to them at first. He has however copped on since... And as far as I know, loves Morbid Angel. :p

Check out Westlifes new album. Puts everything else here to shame. Honest!

    Hmm... Let us see.

Gojira are definitely cut from the same cloth as Morbid Angel, and have been heavily influenced by them, so I'd say if you like Gojira, then you'll probably like Morbid Angel. The album Domination is a great starting point.

I'd also recommend the following albums:

    Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
Akercocke - Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone
    Meshuggah - Chaosphere
    Cynic - Focus
    Enslaved - Eld

Let us know what you think.

Oh and I dunno if you're into the whole metalcore/death thing but check out Unearth. Their album 'The Stings Of Conscience' has been in my cd player for God knows how long.

    Mastadon-Any of their 3 albums

    Eyehategod-any of their albums

Nile-annialation of the wicked(its death metal but done sooooooo well)

Decapitated-Organic Hallucinosis(as above but it is face melting stuff)

Plenty of fine recommendations already but have you heard any Mastodon?

I recommend them because like Opeth and Gojira, there's quite a lot of complexity and technicality there. I find their albums to be fantastic to get into over a few listens.

You could also like Baroness and perhaps check out Maudlin of the Well (now defunct but amazing).

I think you should go for some Neurosis to be honest. Not sure if you'd like them quite yet, but give them time and I reckon they'd be your thing.
And maybe Nevermore, although they don't have heavy singing, some of the best "modern" riffage you'll hear though.

I think the vocalist for Nevermore sounds like Jack Black.

Some mighty fine recommendations there people.

No stinkin study for me!! Listenin to Morbid Angel...pretty good. Can see the likeness with Gojira.

But I can't help laugh when listenin to Nevermore!! Their music sounds like it would really suit a Manowar type video! :D

Necrophagist are definitely worth checking out, insanely technical

I'd also recommend Novembers Doom, specifically their Pale Haunt Departure album, as they are great and remind me of Opeth.

I picked it up in HMV for 8 quid the other day and it kicks ass.

No way, I'd say Made Me Do it is their best, followed by their self titled first.

Absolutely agree. May take a few listens but is fantastic.

Also, maybe consider Converge (hardcore - maybe a little extreme), Rest (instrumental Irish - maybe a little mellow) and Soilent Green (kinda deathy/blacky/bluesy).

My xmas CDs just arrived and I am currently listening to Quo Vadis - Day Into Night. So far, I would highly recommend these guys to anyone who likes old In Flames. They're Canadian, but sound very scandinavian

Might as well give Arch Enemy a shout.

Check out their album Burning Bridges!

Decapitated, Vital Remains, Origin and Necrophagist are probably the best technical death metal bands around for my money.

If you like your tunes to be absolute face melters too, try Winds of Creation and Organic Hallucinosis(especially with the hardcore styled vocals) by Decapitated. Icons of Evil by Vital Remains, with Glen Benton on the vocals on this joint, they really cemented themselves as the kings of the blackened death. And Necrophagist's first joint, Onset of Putrefaction, is probably a shade heavier and faster than Epitaph, recommended tunes by Necro from either album are Seven, Symbiotic in Theory, Extreme Unction, Stabwound, Only Ash Remains and Foul Body Autopsy(this tune is ****ing killer).

I've seen all these bands live, and some multiple times, and as much as I love moshing(its like 0.000001 close to being better than sex to me) sometimes I just need to take a minute to appreciate the skills of these guys. The bassist of Origin is hypnotizing he's that good.

Arsis are the band I'm listening to most at the moment. Check out their EP 'A Diamond For Disease'. They have a new album about to be released and I can't wait.
