Insurance companies wont quote??

Just wondering if this is unusual.

I'm 31 years old, with a full license 12 years. 9 years no claims bonus on my own policy, no penalty points, never convicted, never had an accident.
I was looking to upgrade my car, and quite fancy the Subarau Legacy. The one I looked at was a 2001, 2 litre, B4 model, and the insurance companies are saying they wont quote me!
My own insurance company said they would insure me on a standard legacy as third party only for €1600 a year which is a rip (i currently pay €700 a year full comp on a 1.6 Integra). The last crowd I spoke to said they wouldnt insure a Legacy, regardless of what model.
Is this normal? I really thought the days of not getting quoted for insurance were well behind me, and this has come as somewhat of a surprise. I mean its only a 2 litre car. How do people who drive these cars get insured if companies wont quote for it?

You should try ARB, they specialise in High Performance Cars but are not that expensive. Im driving a Dodge Viper and am 32 years of age with 7 years NCB and my premium is 750 per year.

You can only go through a broker as they dont quote directly

OP, I have a 2.0L Legacy (std not B4 or anything) and am a bit older (more mature, but not a fuddy duddy!)

Axa were 770 2 years ago fully comp, then I switched to Hibernian last year for 661, this year though on renewal (Hib) wanted 835, so my broker switched again, this time to Royal & Sun Alliance for 487. Insurance companies seem to have special discounts/introductory offers from time to time so a good broker is very useful. Shop around.

Brittons or one of those may be worth calling for a B4 but AFAIK excess can be high.

Im very surprised by this post. I was insured on a similar B4 with Hibernian last year for 600 euro.My details are almost identical to the op.
There even advertised on Carzone and the likes as being cheep to insure

My only advice is to keep on trying

    Great car by the way:D

It will be worth it in the long run;)

That's not bad at all Dre,they quoted me €1000 last year..and I'm nearly twice your age :(

I had no problems getting a quote as such but all the main insurers (Hib/FBD/AXA/Allianz/Quinn) all wanted around the 900/1000 mark. They have a thing about 'high performance' cars
Got it for 600 with St Paul Travellers through Brittons

I rang all the many companies like, axa, quinn, fbd, etc and no body quoted and then hibernian quoted 1600 fully comp and i got them down to 1300.I thought that was great but i was supposed to ring around more but didnt have the time as insurance was expiring that night. So i will research more next time.
