instron testing of composite samples

I am carrying out some testing on polymer matrix compoiste sameples and need a way to attach the samples (dog bone shape) to the instron. The standard grips will not do. Have heard of drilling the samples at the end and there is a grips that can bolt through. Not sure bout this to be honest. Any body got any advice? Or…

Try roughening the sections of the samples in contact with the grips - are they slipping under load? Drilling the samples probably isn't a great idea as the dog bone shape is designed to give a well-defined gauge area.

If this is a college project, talk to a lab technician about it as they've probably done similar work. Instron's site also has reports on testing pretty much anything, check it out.
