Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's pretty stupid having the hosts as first seeds automatically, especially since there's two. Screws up the rest of the seedings.

Me neither! How did Holland get into the top seed pot when they finished second behind Romania in their group? Ditto Sweden & Spain

And why are France bottom seed?

Something to do with lowest points from the qualifying round?

It's all explained in the link.

Hosts are always top seeds so to insure they play their group games in their home country.

The rest of the seeding is based on the overall coeffients from the last 2 qualifying campaigns(World Cup 06 and Euro 08)

I presume UEFA are using their own seedings which are based on the average points to games played over the last 2 qualifying campaigns. Greece are seeded because they won it, Austria and Switzerland because they host it.

Then why are World Cup finalist France in the last seed position? The got 26 points in the qualifying group, the same amount as Holland who are top seeds. Also Germany got 27 points in their group, came 3rd in the World Cup and are seeded in the 3rd group.

It just seems like a weird system that UEFA have there.

seedings make perfect sense and are explained clearly in the uefa link

    Ahhhhh, got it ;)
"The system is based on the results of the qualifying competitions – a cycle of two competitions, that is to say one EURO qualifying competition and one World Cup qualifying competition."

Uefa only use the overall points gained divided by the number of games played in the qualifying groups. it doesn't include games at World Cup 06.

If you look at the coefficients they are actually all very close each other points wise.

    Edit: ah, aminute too late!

Hence the reason why Holland lost to Belarus last night to try and avoid being seeded as they are now guaranteed the so called 'Group of Death'

Pot 1 is a shambles. Ironically the weakest one.

There's no need to put them in Pot 1 in order to make sure their home games are in one country. That could be done through other tinkering. Two host nations made the pot 1 look a bit silly.

    OMG!!

Looking at them all. Can you imagine if Ireland were in this? I could see us maybe beating Austria and Switzerland and that's about it.

Pot 1: Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Holland
Pot 2: Croatia, Italy, Czech Rep, Sweden
Pot 3: Romania, Germany, Portugal, Spain
Pot 4: Poland, France, Turkey, Russia

    Possible Groups:
    Austria, Sweden, Romania, Turkey
    or
    Holland, Italy, Germany, France

I'd love to see the second group. It'd be a bloodbath.

Hmmm, Holland have the best pot. :)

This system is stupid exactly because of that. Holland have been punished for coming top.
