I'm in 6th year and lately, I have been so stressed out. Its gotten to the point where I been thinking about leaving school. I know, pointless right? Nearly finished the 2nd term, why leave now... :( I have talked to my mam about leaving and she will not let me leave unless I have a good job.

I need ways of helping me stay focused. When I sit down to revise, I will become distracted within 10 minutes. I have always had this problem. Its near the end of Nov and I have done little revision. I don't know what to do. :(

I do want to go to college. I want to study Accounting. But, I need to get the points and at the rate I am going, I will be lucky if I even pass my Leaving Cert. I know, not the best attitude but I can't help it.
I plan on get those Revise Wise books for each subject I need them for. Hopefully that will be a start for my revision. Are they good? Woul you recommend them? I am doing 2 hours after school study and I just can't be bothered to revise. [I'm doing 4H and 3O]

It seems that I am more interested in going out at the weekend with friends, going into town shopping, watching TV or going on the computer. [I have a feeling getting a laptop for xmas is not a good idea. lol ]

Does anyone know whats the best way to revise and help stay focused?
    Thank you.

Does your school have supervised study, or even a room where you could do some work (preferably by yourself if you can't keep yourself from socialising with others) every evening?

Yes, I am already doing that for 2 hours. But, I usually do my homework in it. If I have time left, I will try to revise but I don't get anywhere.

finish the leaving and go to college. you've spent the last 12 years of your life in school, why leave when you have like 20 school weeks left? you may aswell just try to study. even if your not getting anywhere, its better to read through your books/notes than to give up and not do anything. dont even consider leaving school cos you'll regret it this time next year when your working in footlocker for minimum wage. you should go to college and do something that will get you a career. watever you do, try to go to college and dont leave school cos if you do, it will be the biggest mistake of your life.

Laylay: by the time my leaving cert came around I had little to no drive or interest in the exams, and simply wanted it all over with. Over the months preceding, I had done little work, and over christmas I had a friend pass away which meant I did even less work!

My best advise to you would be a few things:
1)Stick with it. I've stuck through the LC, a couple of years through college that did NOTHING for me realistically, but i've finally hit the point where i'm interested in the area i'm in.

2)So in that study time you have available, for the next two weeks, try and jot down what you remember from classes during the day. Basically test your recall (and its mostly passive recall, i know, i've been there) and see how much you've accidentally learned without realising. If you have issues revising then this is a skill you're going to have to look into, as its probably the best back up plan ever. I was terrible for doing actual study, and to be honest the ability to passively soak up classes probably saved my ass big time.

    3) Calm down. So after having sat the leaving, sat through college exams, etc. the only thing i've realised is that at certain times you need to sit down and calm yourself down. and a lot of the time, it involves imposing an un-natural calm on yourself, but sometimes this is the only thing. sit down, stop thinking about it for a while, and force your brain to stop working overtime worrying, and spend more time considering whats in front of you.

thats the best advice I can give (and if you want any more of my still of bull**** advice give a pm!) but to be honest I think it works for people like yourself and me who don't have the ability to drive themselves to serious study sometimes.
