Help with camcorder please

I recently bought a Panasonic NV-GS60EB Mini DV camcorder to take vidoes to upload onto my computer to email to family and to put onto Youtube. Youtube help pages says that this format of camcorder can be used to upload videos.

It has a USB connection but the only instructions for Windows PC use is how to use it as a webcam which I don't need to do. The instructions say "when you connect the USB cable while you operate a tape in playback mode, the tape will be stopped". So how do I upload the video if the tape isn't playing ??

Panasonic are useless, their telephone help desk is not operational and they haven't replied to my query via email message after 4 days now.

I am very confused and frustrated, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

You probably need to connect it via Firewire,
If you don't have a firewire port on your PC, you can buy a firewire card that you can slot into your pc, costs about €20. If you have a laptop you can get a pcmcia firewire card. you'll also need a firewire cable to connect to your pc.
Once you have all that, open your video editing software (or windows Movie Maker) and go to capture and your camera should appear as a device to capture from.

I have the same cam and use a program on Windows called Movie maker. I connect using http://http://www.plextor-europe.com/products/PX-AV200U.asp?choice=PX-AV200U I'm sure firewire is good too. This is USB to the cam, worked well for me.

Tell us how you get on.

You can look here to get more info on firewire
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire

Look in Control panel\Network connections and see if there's a 1394 Connection
Or Click Start\Run and type in devmgmt.msc and press enter
If there's nothing in there listed as IEEE 1394 you probably don't have one.

So you'd have to buy a Pci Firewire card
Just make sure you have a spare port for it in your PC
If you open the case on your computer, and see if you have any spare
slots, PCI slots are white, there are usually 3 or 4 of them in a standard pc
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_Component_Interconnect

You can get a Firewire card, a cable and a copy of Ulead Videostudio SE
editing software for about €30 delivered from dabs.ie. see link below

I did Start\run as above and I don't have a firewire connection. I'm going to ring my local computer shop and see if they can supply me with a card and fit it for me.

    Thanks for the help

If it is any consolation I am having difficulties in this general area too. (Different hardware and configuration).

My general conclusion is that the whole video conversion/uploading area is not as friendly as it might (and hopefully will ) be.

They're really designed for capturing from video cassette players and analog
video cameras. I'm not an expert but from what i've read capturing through firewire will give you better quality video at higher frame rates.
