It is designed primarily as a carry gun, small (relatively), light, high capacity so it has limited appeal for target use.

Very limited to what you can use the gun for, have you decided the type of shooting that you would like to do?

Maybe go along to a range and talk to some other shooters.

It does look cool though! The trigger is pretty poor though and the barrel is to short to be accurate.

Not sure. In centerfire I would say the following are popular:

CZ, Tangfoglio, STI (and other1911 style), Sig.

It depends on the type of shooting. The above are the ones that I would see alot of.

Depends on your budget and what "floats your boat".

Do you want to shoot minor or major?

If you have a small budget and want to shoot minor you can not go too far wrong with a CZ SP01. Some people love Glocks (I dont), but they are very popular.

If you have a bit more money you can go for an SVI or some other exotic custom 1911 in .40

Try lots and then decide! If you ask 50 practical shooters you will get 50 answers!

My choice: I would say a 2011 style custom Les Baer in .40, but I would never here the end of it from Pat, so I will say an SVI Infinity in .40 ! But I cant afford either!!

I fancy a paraord 18/9 lda like the double action trigger

With the execption of the Glock, double action pistols are not used much in practical shooting. All of the 1911/2011s I know are single action only. Most people that shoot practical seem to end up with a 1911/2011 type pistol. Having said that Para-ordnance make some quality stuff! Whith that sort of budget I would look at something else though.

I find with the LDA double action I can shoot just as quick as an single action

If the shoe fits wear it. I've shot a PX4 many times and it is very accurate for it's size. The trigger is a bit of a let down, feeling a bit...eh plastic. It is light and easy to manage for a beginner and certainly, a good first 9mm. You probably won't win many matches with it, but then again you probably wont enter many matches either until you're at a level that you are happy with. By then you will probably have tried countless others and know what the next step up will be.
