ok, so last time we played these, we were poor and lucky to win. we got 2 goals in the last 5 minutes. looking at their results, they dont concede much and have lost a few games by 1 goal. so, its not going to be easy. however, last week, we actually got properly stuck into a team and didnt let them have time on the ball. this in turn gave us the edge that maybe we lacked in the 2nd half 2 weeks ago. so, more of the same please, plenty of shouting/talking to each other and keep the agression going that we showed last week.

PRobably won't be able to make it due to a knee injury. It's nothing serious, I just wouldn't be at full fitness.

Anyone know if we'll have numbers for tonight? Not too many responses. Think Des is missing tonight as well so hopefully people will come aling. It'd be a shame to follow up last week's heroics with a poor turn out this week

Every single week someone asks this.

    Most people don't respond here.

I get texts from people if they AREN'T coming.

So far I have texts from Darragh saying he can't make it. And gav saying he may have to work late, but more than likely will make it.

Joe and Shay are long term injured.

Sav is carrying a knock, as he said in this thread. And Lepo is injured, and won't be there.

made hard work of it again and got a lucky goal with about 3 minutes left, but its about time that we got some luck. however, we deserved it, they scored with their only 2 shots on goals and once again, a dubious free kick decision went against us, for the 3rd time in 4 games, and the same ref has given all 3 decisions against us.

half time was 0-0, we were very comfortable and carl had nothing to do, Jules hitting the crossbar with a rasper from 20 yards out and we have 3 or 4 more half chances. Jules put us 1-0 up with a good finish from a corner, but they equalised with a very dodgy goal. brilliant work from art (his best game so far) saw us go 2-1 up, and we pushed for the 3rd, but we got caught on the break, they piled forward and scored with a man over on the back post. once again, Jules was having a go at the crossbar challenge, this time hitting it from 30 yards. however, with time running out, gav and dave combined and the keeper spilled a soft goal to give us the win.

the only thing i cant complain about is sometimes, we tend to go to sleep and not put in the challenges. we need to work harder and in the 2nd half, we had patches where we didnt do the business. lads, we need to get stuck in, no matter who we are playing and be stronger on the ball. we cant pull out of challenges, im not saying that we should take out every man that gets past us, but while martins late challenge was in a dangerous position, thats the kinda thing that needs to be dont to lay down a bit of authority. we are good enough to do well in this league, but sometimes we are too nice and we suffer.

however, job done, 3 points and we are in an ok postion, 3rd (though we are off next week so we may drop a position!)

scores - Jules, OG (art), dave

Good win tonight lads. Injured my ankle after that diabolical tackle on me in the 1st half. It's ****ing agony right now so I'm gonna be missing for a few weeks pending a visit to the physio

Yeh, to quote the great man Stan - "a win is a win if you win it". They were a much improved side over last time, mainly due to the addition of the highly effective Collie at number 8 in midfield, so getting the 3 points in the bag is sweet. Yep, a bit of luck with the scrappy goal being given in the last few minutes, but their first was more comedy from this ref, and we did hit the bar twice and have the better chances, so easily deserved it. But great to see us making our own luck.

I know what Ed's getting at - we clearly have the fight and hunger to keep pushing to the end, but we do need to get tougher in addition to that. Nothing wrong with dishing out a few wise fouls in non threatening positions. I let a man by me quite easily out wide in the build up for the 2nd goal (big deflection). If I hadn't of known the ref was just looking for an excuse to send me off after our "chat", I'd have creamed him and it'd have been the right decision.

Good play all round though, the fact they barely had another chance of note in the game reflects well on the defence, we handled their midfield well bar no. 8, and Art & Sav were always lively, as was Larry when he came on.

We weren't quite in top gear yet managed to squeeze out 3 points even despite the clown of a ref (doing your Uefa B license? yeh right pal) and things not going our way early on. That's the sign of an improved team - last season we'd have walked away pointless for sure.

Let's focus on keeping that level of drive and no complacency for the next game. I'll be in Istanbul with work so my next game will be 18th December, but that's no bad thing cos my back and shins need time to recover from tonight. Feckin hard shoes on a wedding dancefloor at the weekend set the shins back a long way and despite the anti-inflammatories, tonight was taking playing through the pain barrier to the max. But a rest from impact will do it grand, and hopefully the specialist I'm seeing this week after waiting 3 months will be worth it.

Keep busy during the break lads - everyone should be looking at doing some other training either another match, going for a run, or hitting the gym with the no match next week, even lads with injuries can be doing something to keep it ticking over so we don't lose this momentum.

    OK, nice win lads.

Nice to hear we got that bit of luck at last too. :)

    Just to confirm the scorers.

    Jules, Art and Dave?

    Is that right?

Art's one was an og but sure put him down for it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,323 ✭✭✭Savman

Between Art's OG and the keeper fumbling the 3rd goal right at the death, luck was most definitely on our side. Although hitting the bar twice would make you wonder if it was gonna be one of those days but I think we just about deserved the win.

They will be fairly kicking themselves, because they had good possession spells and knocked us right off our rhythm, quite literally. To their credit, its the second time they made life very difficult for us. That's just how they play, and no doubt they'll catch a couple of teams offguard before the end of the season. Awkward team.

In hindsight I probably should have sat that one out, just couldn't get going for various reasons and felt I was half a yard of the pace of the game. Very frustrating but needless to say I'll be making full use of the week off next week.

We weren't great, but we won, I shpose that'll do for the time being ;);)

Jaysus, you’re in danger of becoming a pessimist Sav! Yeh we got a bit of luck with the last goal, but for the OG your man had to slide in cos I was right there for a tap in from 3 yards as Art whipped it across – so it was either gonna be me scoring or him scoring, or a peno for the slide tackle. Our sole bit of luck in the entire game was the ref correctly awarding that goal at the end after it went through the hole in the net. Add that to hitting crossbar twice with strikes that would often win a game, and I see it as luck going 3 – 1 against us. So, we ground out a good result against a much improved team that managed to stifle us for a lot of the game but offered no real threat going forward – good night’s work.

Still can’t get over what a complete tosser that ref is though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,323 ✭✭✭Savman

Ah I know I was just dissappointed at my own game, had straps on the ankle and thigh so always tends to make ye stiff, a right pain in the arse altogether.

Still a great result under the circumstances and I was shocked the Ref had the courage to give the last goal. It defo 110% crossed the line when the keeper pushed it out thru the side of the net but I thought to myself "there's no way the ref would spot that" considering he never moves from the halfway line.

Cheek of you btw, questioning his "credentials" :D:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

quote of the night from the ref " im too over qualified for this, check the herald, im in it every week".

if he hadnt just pissed me off for awarding that first goal, i would have fell over with the laughter.

looks like he is here to stay though, so no point in giving out about him. we will get a decision off him someday soon.
