    (Of course, Arts is actually a proper degree too, but I'll never ever win that argument! :p)

    no it isn't. and i'm in the final year of doing one now. :( anyone who thinks our degrees are comparable to the MSc or BE are deluding themselves...

    Nobody does a primary teaching course if they've got less points than a triangle in their Leaving Cert.

    The undergrads have all got 450ish points. The post-grads don't get into the course easily either. True, it doesn't matter if your degree is Arts or Rocket Science but the interview system is extremely tough and competitive. The demand for places really outweighs the supply.

    Also, the Irish requirement is an honours C3 in the Leaving Cert. In reality, it's not that simple. For the post-grad, you must do an Irish interview as well as an English interview. A lot of those who get As in both the Irish and English interviews do not get a place on the course. Fact.

    As for secondary teachers, I believe that some have fallen into the career because of a useless primary degree and the chance to get an extra qualification (HDip) after just one more year.
