Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Me too, but they would be mad not to show these games on their Setanta Ireland Channel which is more widely available. Otherwise there would be uproar.

These 2010 World Cup qualifiers will be available by subscribing to Setanta Sports – currently £9.99 a month, with no annual contract required.

Does this apply to Irish viewers too? If so that's a load of ****.

I thought there was some law that said important sporting events have to be freely available to everyone?

think that only applies to events hosted in Ireland or perhaps its not exclusive coverage

    Will RTE lose them?

Or are Setanta just robbing the ones that Sky usually show at the same time as RTE?

I think all competitive internationals have to be free to air, whether they're home or away, so I'd imagine they're just pinching them from Sky.

They'll only be shown along side RTE's coverage of them. As Zaph has already mentioned, any games of national importance (some EU rule dictates this) have to be available to be shown by the national broadcaster of said country.

There was already uproar when the FAI tried to sell the rights to away games to Sky. They weren't allowed and as a result they only got exclusive rights to friendlies.

Hmm, not sure you's are right about this one?

Yes, home games have to be on terrestial tv but away games go to the highest bidder to the respective national carriers don't they?

Afterall TV3 have had exclusive rights to away games before and they are not the national broadcaster.

The link provided in the original post is for the UK rights, but I presume Setanta secured the Irish rights for Irelands away games too?

*And i thought the uproar was because they tried selling exclusive rights to Sky for the home games?

Yea that only covers games played at home, the Irish or UK Governments have no power when it comes to away games and its another jurisdiction.

Sorry, you're right about them trying to sell exclusive rights (link) , dunno why I said away.
However, I thought the away matches were also covered by the act?

How can they, each away game is bid for independently on a one of contract. So for example how could the Irish Government tell the Bulgarian FA who they can/cannot sell the rights to...?
