    I think United/Arsenal/Inter/AC Milan/Juventus/Real Madrid/Barca/Liverpool/Chelsea are all in with a shot :P

If I had to narrow the list, I'd put it down to United/AC Milan/Real/Barca as the favorites. As always I think United are gona win it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Milan break our hearts again. I think though, they'll get to the quarters either way I think, and after that, if United get a bit of luck on the injuries front, we could go all the way this year.

Not for United I would say.

Arsenal Barca maybe, both play some superb football.

I for one say Ronaldo is a better player than Fabregas. Im sure Im not the only one either.

It's not that he's not a better player, it's just so far this season Fabregas has been better :)

Maybe he'll actually manage to outscore Dirk Kuyt if he's playing for Utd. :)

Agreed. This season, Fabregas at his best has been marginally better than Ronaldo not at his best. At their best, Id take Ronaldo over Fabregas anyday.

Does UEFA Cup cup-tie players for the CL?

    Really?

    I didn't know that.

Imo, you can't compare. Ronaldo plays primarily on the wings, Fabregas is an out and out centre mid. And I emphasise the out and out bit, the amount of tracking back and tackling the youngster gets in is unbelieveable. Something thats not exactly Ronaldo's biggest attribute :p

ronaldo has far better players around him than Fabregas and fabregas is the fulcrum of that team. Ronaldo is definitely a good player and better than most but even at the top of his game he is not as good as Fabregas at the top of his game.

He won't be cup tied if Berbs comes to United either.

Yeah, Masch played against Palermo, I think, for WHU earlier last season.

I think you can go up, but not down.

IE, play in the UEFA then the CL, but not the CL then the UEFA.

Nope, can compete in them seperately in either direction, or such is my reading of the rules.

Actually having re-read there again, am not sure, do they deliberately obfuscate their meanings ?

to be honest, those rules were different everytime the mascherano incident was mentioned.....i think des is correct in what he is saying. makes sense.

the press have always been reporting on this incorrectly and there has always been a misconception on these rules. the mascherano incident was the first to bring it to a head.

Not sure that this was the first time it came to a head have been many occasions where this has happened in the past.

Negative karma for Evra, Xavi and Juninho tonight from me. For diving and waving imaginary yellow cards respectively.

    Fantastic win for Utd..

They haven't hit form in the CL, yet have 5 wins out of 5. This was a very tricky group and initially i feared for Utd away from home..

But they've ended up coasting it and doing a professional job. Evra was man of the match imo. The new roberto carlos, with added bite :)

Bad list but I think Milan could sneak there way into the final again & possibly Sevilla.

Delighted...Vucinic scores twice...Panucci scores for the third game running and Giuly scores a lovely goal. I am really happy I thought we would come unstuck in the freezing cold, considering no Aquilani, Perotta or Totti.
They were wearing wooly sweaters under the jersey.

    Final:

    Inter Milan vs Roma

It really is not that far fetched...like there is a one in 16 chance they could get to the final.

Roma will be found out again, they offered nothing at Old Trafford.
It really is not that far fetched...like there is a one in 16 chance they could get to the final.

If only it were that simple, then every team would have the same odds at the bookies.

It's more far fetched that Robbie Keane to United.

Milan will knock out Man Utd again, they up their game 40,000% when they play Man Utd :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Or maybe Sir Alex of Ferguson hasn't the tactical know how to beat them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

The midfield is insanely amazing. Ok the forward area is not that great..but still pretty decent, and defence is good.

    Hang on.

I didn't say anything about Serie A. WTF?

Man Utd didn't beat Milan last season.

Alex Ferguson was in charge. He has to shoulder at least some of the blame.

Feck sake, why are you so sensitive to a bit of well founded criticism?

lol calm down only having a bit of fun

Ferguson got it all wrong in Milan(he even admitted it himself iirc), but again he didn't have a type of player to stop Kaka, Liverpool had Mascherano in the final and didn't see him till he got subbed off

With our full defence, and Hargreaves it won't be a raping but I still think their midfield just has our midfield number. Gattuso for example I think is so motiviated and pumped up to stop Ronaldo

    Yes they did.

    3-2 at Old Trafford.

A win for Man United, a defeat for Milan.

So, by virtue of scoring more goals then Milan, United beat Milan

    See, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/6582631.stm , proof.

And here was me thinking that the CL knockout stages were two-legged affairs.

Manchester United didn't beat Milan over two legs last season..

Alex Ferguson was in charge. He has to shoulder at least some of the blame.

Feck sake, why are you so sensitive to a bit of well founded criticism?

Manchester failed to succeed against Milan last year.

    Yes, or no?

    What are tonight's permutations?

Liverpool and Celtic NEED to win, do they? Or is a point enough for them to remain in contention?

I think if liverpool draw tonight, Besiktas beat Marseille and Liverpool beat Marseille away in 2 weeks then Pool go through. Big risk though, realistically it has to be win tonight.

Liverpool have to win by all accounts. If they play for a draw, then they are idiots, no other way around it.
