Zurich Marathon

Anybody run the Zurich marathon before and care to give a review?

Found out today I wasn't successful in entering the London marathon through the ballot system so looking for another marathon in April (not Connemara, ran there last year).

I know that Paris is in April too so that's also an option (edit: not anymore, they've reaced their limit of 35000!!!).

There are lots of marathons in April. I quite like the sound of the Deutsche Weinstrasse one!!!

That particular list came from www.marathonguide.com. Go to calendar > international on the top menu. I started using those pages ages ago when I was toying with the idea of running a marathon in every EU member state (something akin to the US 50 states marathon club*, http://www.50anddcmarathongroupusa.com/index.cfm) I never got around to it partly because of expense and partly because ironman got in the way.






*btw, my uncle was the first european member of that particular group. He has run hundreds of marathons and a similar number of ultramarathons. I've a long way to go......

I haven't run Zurich but it is one that really appeals and I was seriously considering it before I signed up for Rotterdam. One thing you can guarantee it'll be well organised!

If you are looking for lists of marathons a really good resource is this, it's teh list of certified races and there are some crackers on there...

Is there any point in a "sticky" for marathon reviews? Between us we must have run dozens of different marathons and it's always good to have an independent review. Only problem is it probably wouldn't be searchable.

yeah, that's a good idea. Do you want a ranking scheme? (out of five for difficult, support, goodie bag etc?)

I've just realised, I'm only running one straight marathon this year afaik.

I don't think I'm running any straight marathons, all of mine will have bends... (also insert weak joke about gay marathons if you really want to...)

Ranking system would be good and maybe defined review categories like suitability for beginers, refreshments, etc

Great idea in my opinion, would give a more objective yet at the same time maybe a subjective viewpoint, forgive the paradox!
