    Hey,

I was thinking of getting a Type R Integra (White) and the Online Quinn Direct system wont even quote me.

The car is not that major as in it is 2.0i and does not look too over the top imo.

    Details,

Full License for 2 years (3.5 years no claims)
    Over 25 years of age.

    They still wont quote me.

Anyone have one of these cars or one like it? How much did your insurance cost and who are you with?

my mate has a 2000 one and its costing him 2600 in insurance with modifications and hes also on provisional, cant remember what company hes with though., its always the same with online quotes, if you ring up or go in they'll give you a quote.,

Once they hear type r its hard to get insurance.Just keep trying every insurance company in ireland and someone will quote you.
I heard its illegal if an insurance company doesnt give you a quote. Is that right?

    Thats absolute madness

at over 25 with 3.5 NCB you should have a decent enough discount as opposed not being quoted - theyre not f'n ferraris!

Ive heard that you wont get an online quote unless your over 30 for ITR's

DRE - yes it is but most of them will give you such a ridiculous quote on purpose so that you will just decline it anyway

I don't think their online system quotes anything over 130bhp so I'd just ring them

Its not that big a deal

They are absolute beasts, my brother has a heavily modified one (engine wise, no exterior mods bar brakes and suspension upgrades) and it was fairly impressive in a quarter mile at the limerick race course 2 years ago. it beat some very stiff opposition which on paper should have wiped the floor with it

check the driver.ie forum there is a post for the exact same thing, im pretty sure the guy ended up getting a quote. Also if you have an existing policy you can transfer your cover onto anther car once you have bought it and they have to cover you.

Yeah i was surprised myself alright. I have been with Quinn for years even before i had my own policy. My current car is a 1.9TDI so on engine size i am only going up .1 but the Type R is killing me.

I just fancy a real car for a change and the Type R Integra does not really give the Boy Racer image that i hate.

I will see what they say when i ring them.

Its just the online system that wont quote ya, ring up and tell em you own the car and they have to give ya a quote.

Try ringing insurance companies. Online quotes are really only useful if you are trying to insure a run of the mill car.

I heard St Paul's and Britton Insurance specialise in insuring these type of cars.

Generally from my experience Quinn Direct are aiming at the young inexperienced driver's insurance market.

That's a very good quote, even though you failed to mention you have a €4,000.00 excess on any claim ;)

Yeah i hate when people say that the quotes only 500 and they dont even realize they are getting ripped off as they have to pay excess of 1000's if they have an accident.

Quinn dont insure anyone under 30 on Type R's.

Theres a fair difference in performance of a Tdi and a 2litre Vtec 220bhp car to be honest but as has been said at over 25 you should be able to get quoted on it.

I'm with quinn and wanted to change to the DC2 1.8 type r, its only 190bhp but it was the same story, had to be over 30.

To get insured I asked Quinn for a quote, they refused, I got 2 letters from other insurance companies saying they wouldn't quote me (FBD, Hibernian) and went back to quinn with these letters, they then insured me immediattely with no hassle for a fair enough price too.

you should try this and let us know how you get on, hope it helps

Or over 30! Driving 10 Years.. Had a 99 1.6 Si-R Insured with Quinndirect, changed to a 01 DC5 ITR and they refused to Insure me.. even though I was 3 months into the 2nd year of having insurance with that particular company! The QD call-centre told me point blank "we do not insure that type of car".

Im now insured through Wrightway Insurance for about €1, 700.. The extra thousand Euro being a loading for driving an ITR.. even though with the same company I could get insured on a Porsche Boxster for €650!

Think of it this way. You've got a definite saving. The Excess is only if you are unfortunate enough to have a claim. And in that case, the Excess should be compared with the real cost of a claim with another insurance company. We use a simple rule of thumb, losing your full bonus with another company costs up to three times your premium.

Check out the faq's on xsdirect's site.. how much does loosing your NCB really cost you.. and who claims off there insurance for minor scrapes and knocks? If anything you are being "ripped off" by the bonus system!

I found FBD and Eagle Star good for performance cars.
