Anybody been into this new gaming centre on Grafton street?

22" displays ,top of the range pc's,sweet headphones, and comfy chairs....sweet deal.

Bit expensive though, but worth trying out, first half an hour is free anyways.

Was in there playing COD4 earlier...makes me yearn for the days where I could play top of the range games at home :( stupid macbook....:p

    true that...

imo if you open up a gaming cafe that center on pc's you might as well just throw money down the toilet. 6 months from now those PC's will be struggling to play the latest games. Then in a year you'll need to do a complete upgrade.

I sat down with a few friends before and tried to see if it could work, but it can't, too much money is needed to keep the pcs up to spec and installed with the latest games. Even then you are relying on the game developers to properly optimize the games.. I wouldn't pay to have lag.

Then theres also the problem with underage gaming. THe people who will use these places are people under 18 as most people older have enough money to build their own pcs, organize their own lans or go to the big annual lans. A lot of the most popular games are 15+. I know of a few places in the states that got shut down for not adhering to the age limits on the games.

I really wanted to open up one of these places before but its just too much of a gamble as to whether it will work.

    i aint a shill!

seemingly theyre going alright, they loads of branches, although it reeked of nerdiness...which isn't always a bad thing...

the only reason we went in in the first place was the attractive promos girl...

And Rhyme,I say 'stupid macbook' because I have one,and its fairly turd for playing games/getting games for...apart from that,i love it

Gaming cafe's were viable back in the days of dial up, but now almost everyone has broadband in some form. Only way this could make much money is on lans, but even they aren't as popular.

i don't think the internet connection is what brings people in. it's moreso the fact that people (for the most part) don't have super high-end equipment in their machines

Then the store will just have the issue of having to upgrade the hardware which can be very costly.

    like that place 5star?

whe nthat openend i was there every weekend, i had a better pc at home and a faster connection.

But there was always games going on and it was good craic, plus i was making money from playing wc3 with the asians :)

but in the end these places always get their money from foreigners going in to communicate with family at home.

if the place has the right atmosphere maybe la ngaming could take off in it.

thats my point, if I was going to open up anything like this it would be an internet cafe, as foreigners need internet access and internet capable PC's are dirt cheap.

If I was to go the gaming root, sadly, it would have to be a console gaming cafe as you won't need to upgrade a console to the next gen for at least another few years, giving you time to make your money back.

if your going gaming road you would want some serious gaming competitions to draw in the crowd, with decent prizes.

i remember when the net cafe in swords first opened, no one had broadband and we would fill it up every weekend playing. And there was comps every fri and sat night, prizes where free hours, it was good at the time and i built up a lengthy supply, and they got their money.

Once i got broadband though i never went back.

How a bout a Retro Gaming Cafe?
You could get hold of some of the classic machines/games (No need for future upgrades)
Maybe link a few together (Eg. Atari ST's> Stuntcar driver!).
You could play cheesy 80's music and get the staff to get Flock of seagull haircuts too...
