okay, am fairly new to this but need abit of advice. We got an attic conversion over the past few months, tanks were raised up. Over the past few weeks, we're having problems with our water supply - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, taps wont run, loos wont flush. My partner looked into the tanks, which were empty, then during the night, they started filling themselves back up again??? Is this a watermains problem ie Council, or could we have dirt or something lodged and need a plumber??
Also, apparanlty, all of our taps, hoses etc are taken from our tanks and not mains water supply.. should this be the case??
I'm living in Drogheda by the way, if that helps at all.
Many thanks to anyone who could offer advice

All internal taps except the cold at the kitchen sink are usualy taken from the tank in the attic and the hot water tank.
In relation to the missing water... you need to look at the filler valve - it should have a strong flow of water when the tank is empty. If not, check that they valves on the pipe leading to the tank is on full. This vale may be in the hotpress, but don't just launch in there and start turning taps...!

If you are unsure, get the plummer back out.

Yep JoeJay. Water pressure. Raising the header tank is probably the cause of your woes. even a couple of inches up/down can mean the difference in tank filling or not. Fills at night because pressure is increased ---less people using water.
    Options.
get Council out first , they may be able to increase pressure....even a tiny leak at the road mains/stopcock can lose you enough pressure.
Install pump , careful there are positive and negative head pressure pumps ....Builder suppliers should tell you
increase storage capacity so you hold enough water for day use.
    Get council out first
To see just how much too high tank is, Run a garden hose (outside) from mains tap and hold it at and below tank level. Raising and lowering hose causing water to flow / stop will confirm it's a pressure problem
