WWE: The Movie

I've been looking for wrestling theme movies lately: Nacho Libre delivered alot less in this respects than I thought it would. I'm sure there are others. I'm already aware of wrestling clips in the likes of Spiderman but I'm looking for an all out wrestling film.

Has anyone seen the 1985 film "Grunt! The wrestling movie" The plot entails a documentary filmmaker out to do a project on a wrestler who supposedly killed himself after decapitating his opponent in the ring. I tried finding clips or trailers for it but came up empty handed. Is it any good?

I was also positive that WWE produced "Wrestlemania: The Movie" at some point but this might only have been an exageration for bonus extra's on a Wrestlemania box set.

I also think that WWE should bring out a film featuring popular stars and angles. Not only would it be cool to see wrestlers be part of storylines that are portrayed in a kayfabe and cinematic light but it would also bring wrestling into mainstream media a little. Don't get me wrong, I'm a wrestling purist and I don't accept the viewpoint that storylines and gimmicks are everything but my mouth waters at the possibility of seeing Triple H perform a pedigree close up in slow motion with digital effects. It would be a big hit in my opinion.

That was intended to be released as a film but they ended up just showing it on tv. It was called The Mania of Wrestlemania. Basically just a behind the scenes look at the last WM that had Austin vs Rock, can't remember the number or the other matches

I've never seen any wrestling movies, as far as I can remember anyway. "The Wrestler" is meant to be a good film, it has a lot of big name guys in it. There's a movie being made soon called The Wrestler as well, it's different to the old one. Nicholas Cage was meant to play the lead role and he went backstage to a recent ROH show, but he pulled out of the production a couple of weeks ago

Oh, I saw one of the many films that El Santo appeared in once, it was like El Santo vs the Zombies from Mars. Not really wrestling-themed, but it had some wrestling moves!

I'd never really thought about it, but a film based on a WWE angle featuring WWE wrestlers could be really good, but I wouldn't trust them to do it right at all. The movies WWE have made so far have been awful in terms of character development and plots

I just checked The Wrestler on IMDB and Darren Aronozaky is down to direct it. He makes ****ed up movies, but is a great director. It also stars Mickey Rourke, who is awesome so I'll be looking forward to this one. Unfortunately it's not out til 2009. Shame Nicolas Cage pulled out too.

Mickey Rourke? You serious? That'll be savage! The cast of the original included Vince McMahon, Verne Gagne, Dusty Rhodes, Flair and Pedro Morales just to name a few. I gotta get my hands on a copy, said to be much better that "Grunt! : The Wrestling Movie".

Getting back to the concept of "WWE: The Movie". It could be really useful for creating an aura around todays rising stars like Randy, Kennedy, Edge, Cena, etc. aswell strenghtening their characters. I personally think it would be appealing to wrestling and non-wrestling fans alike if it was well done. I'd pay good money...

There was also a wrestling related sitcom: "Learning the Ropes" (1988). Does anyone recall it? It even starred Steve 'Dr. Death' Williams.

Heres a link to a short segment of the original "The Wrestler": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpDfNZFAfes

The new film isn't a remake, it just has the same name. Mickey Rourke replaced Nicholas Cage. Wonder if he's any relation to Christian?

Your right, it was 2000. I googled it, it got 1.7 outta 10 on IMDb. The plot entails two teenage boys aspire to win a backyard wrestling championship and a chance to appear on a national TV show.

I also know of another backyard wrestling related film called 'Backyardigans' or 'The Backyarders' or something. Searched on my torrents for a download but came up empty handed.

Man on the Moon about Andy Kaufman has a slice of wrestling in it too.

Mickey Rourke in a wrestling movie is going to be incredible. With that and Sin City 2 in 2009, it's gonna be a good year for Rourke, and us!!

Man on the Moon is a great movie, Carrey is brilliant in it.

This Journada del Muerto could be alright. It's directed by the creator of Rome, the tv show, which I hear is quite good . He was also involved in Apoclapse Now! which is good enough for me.

And, for the record, the Condemned is great! 90 minutes of brainless entertainment!

I enjoyed Ready To Rumble because it WAS that bad!

Edit: Dont know what this is all about, but 9.8 in IMDB is unheard of. Even beats the Wire

That film annoyed me. I can't remember the specifics of it but the lack of logic at times got very annoying. See No Evil was worse. It starts off with a bus full of convicts, so of course I'm thinking that these are bad people, and everything at the beginning suggests that they are. But no! They're meant to be the good guys! That was directed by a porn director though, so I'm guessing that sort of stuff wasn't really his specialty

Sting made a biographical movie that contained a good bit of wrestling stuff, naturally. A bit odd though. Abyss appearing in front of 20,000 people and some other fictional stuff

I found a list of movies about wrestling here: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/Movies/index.html Just looking through the list, I remember hearing about "I Like To Hurt People" before, Terry Funk is meant to be very good in it. I've seen Breakfast With Blassie before, it's all just Andy Kaufman and Freddy Blassie having breakfast in a cafe. They talked about wrestling though and it was interesting and a bit wacky too. Only other name off that list I'll mention is "Wrestling With the North", I've got it on a DVD somewhere but haven't watched it. I think it's a documentary about Canadian wrestlers, must dig it out
