Okay folks, some of you will have spotted that we have new sub-forums off of the main shooting forum by now; others won't have seen them thanks to the boards.ie software. By the end of today, everyone should be able to see them:
    • Target Shooting
    • Hunting
    • For Sale/Wanted
There are new charters for each of these. I've quoted them below, and they aren't carved in stone just yet (Target Shooting's one is not far off it, but Hunting's is still being worked on); but the guts of them are the same as for this forum with only a few minor changes:
    • No politics in any of them. Admin, legislation, infighting, it all stays out here.
    • Hunting threads in Hunting, Target Shooting threads in Target Shooting, For Sale or Wanted ads in For Sale/Wanted. Put your thread in the wrong forum and you get a yellow card and your thread moved - do that enough times and the boards.ie software will ban you for a week...
    • The procedure for For Sale / Wanted ads may change dramatically to more follow the adverts.ie rules; that's still in discussion

We'll be moving more and more threads from here to the relevant forums with expiring redirects as we go so you may see some threads vanish (you'll note we've lost a lot of stickies from here already); don't worry, they're not deleted, just moved to the relevant sub-forum.

    Enjoy!

    New charters:
    Target Shooting forum Charter

This forum is for the discussion of sports shooting related subjects, including techniques, equipment and events, in all disciplines.

    There are some basic rules:
    • No flaming, trolling or personal abuse. By anyone. First offence will result in a temporary ban. Subsequent offences may result in longer bans or outright permanent bans. Posts containing offensive material will be edited by the moderators.
    • The forum exists for discussion of the shooting sports (meaning all shooting sports, from international competition to backyard plinking and anything and everything in between, whether it be with rifle, shotgun or pistol, at clay or paper or steel). Other items are off-topic, especially:
      • The use of firearms in self-defence or the right to keep and bear arms (usually referred to as RKBA) as found in other countries. There are many other forums on the net which cater to those topics, but precious few that cater to the actual sport of shooting and we wish this forum to be among that number. Those starting or partaking in such discussions will be warned; if posters continue to engage in them, the offending posts may be edited or deleted and the posters temporarily or permanently banned from the shooting forums.
      • Selling of equipment is to be done through the For Sale forum.
      • Absolutely no politics. All discussion relating to legislation, associations, infighting, reform, etc, etc, belongs in the main Shooting forum and will be moved there without warning or appeal if it shows up in here and an infraction will be marked against the relevant users.
    • If you have a problem with a post, use the "Report Bad Post" link (it's marked on the left side of each post with a report.gif symbol) to report it to the moderators. Do not take it on yourself to regulate the forum.
    • If you have a problem with an action of the moderators, PM them or take it up on the Feedback forum.
    • Spamming. Posts that are nonsensical will be deleted.
    • Replies should try to be on-topic. Although we understand that the nature of life is that threads will drift off-topic; and that off-topic replies can be of even more interest than the original topic; moderators may split threads off if the thread diverges too far from the original topic.
    • No text speak, there are more then 160 characters available here so there is no reason to use it.
    • Please try to watch spelling and grammar as well as using paragraphs. Simple things like this make it a lot easier to read posts.
    • Please refrain from using all CAPITAL LETTERS, this is the Internet equivalent of shouting and can make posts difficult to read.
    • Bad language is unacceptable. This board is for discussion not hurling abuse at others and it does nothing to promote an active discussion.
    Hunting forum Charter

This forum is for the discussion of hunting related subjects, including techniques and equipment; in particular shooting as it pertains to hunting in Ireland. Discussion of current events is not within the scope of the forum, such discussions are to take place in the Shooting forum; such posts will be moved there without warning or appeal.

    There are some basic rules:
    • No flaming, trolling or personal abuse. By anyone. First offence will result in a temporary ban. Subsequent offences may result in longer bans or outright permanent bans. Posts containing offensive material will be edited by the moderators.

    • The forum exists for discussion of hunting (meaning hunting, wildfowling, and so on).
    • Selling of equipment is to be done through the "For Sale" forum.

    • Bad language is unacceptable. This board is for discussion not hurling abuse at others and it does nothing to promote an active discussion.
    • This is a hunting forum so if you're anti-hunting, don't post and don't read any posts; you are going to be offended. Any muppetry will result in a temp or perm ban.

    Nice one!
A good bit of work to create the forums and move all the threads to the appropriate place.

Glad to see the new subforums but I have one quick question.
Is there any place here for gun laws in the news or general news affecting guns and gun owners. I mean I see threads getting locked because they are deemed not to be about the sport of shooting, which is fair enough, but there does seem to be some inconsistency. I mean would the discussion of (to pick a random example off the top of my head) the ERU's "reaction" in Abbylara way back when (or any such similar event) be deemed not related to the sport of shooting? Although it effects us as shooters in the eyes of the public, particularly when legally held firearms are involved.

I understand it's a hazy line and a difficult one to police, but just asking :D

That's what the general Shooting forum (ie, here) is for spideog. There's no point having a thread in Target Shooting about gun laws, not when they affect hunters too.
