Goin building young fella his own pc, so I've decided to give him some of my parts & upgrade mine :D

    His Rig:
    E6600, have this already
    Abit AW9D-Max, also have this
2x1Gb Ocz Platinum pc2 6400, giving him these from my rig
7900GT 256mb, from my current rig, gettin 8800gt/gts
Creative Audigy, have this from old dell
OCZ GameXtream 600W, from my current rig, gettin Corsair 600w modular
Thermaltake Armour, from my current rig, gettin Silverstone tj-07 or tj-09, not decided

Not a bad rig for an 8yo, he plays older games mostly, FEAR, COD, HL2 etc, so 7900gt will be ok for him

So, I need yer advise, wanna be workin on it over xmas (keep me outa pub). Here are the few bits i need:

Ram, lookin for 4GB kit pc2 8500, preferably 2x2gb kit, but would settle for good oc'in pc2 6400 kit. Will prob get my sis in NY get these on newegg.com & send them home with some1 @ xmas. Must oc well on p5k deluxe. Advise please.

Case, as I've said probably tj-07 or tj-09, missis said she'll buy it for me for xmas :D Any other good choices? Will be aircooled for next 6months until i go w/c so must have good airflow.

Gpu, goin orderin either 8800gt or new 8800gts (out 11th dec), not decided, will see whats in stock. Might pre-order gts

Psu, Goin with Corsair 600W modular as i find the OCZ a bit noisy.

Monitor, gettin 22", prob a samsung, which 1? How bout LG? Any other choices?

    Thanks in advance

    Pog

ok, think i'm going with this ram. Opinions?

Review here. They managed 844MHz at 4-4-3-10 on stock voltage and a max of 1122MHz at 5-5-5-18 with only 2.2V. Some oc for 2Gb sticks.

How bout this Lg monitor? Any opinions?

    And this psu?

note that the ram was most likely cherry picked i find it best to search fourms like overclcok.net or Xs for ram and mobo's.dont trust review sites.

wait a few more days for good Gts review as the tweaktown one was pritty crap and not very accurate.

go for a widescrren lcd as then you can use 1600x1200.
for good info on lcd's i found here and here good.

 Hey 1600x1200 is 4:3, not widescreen, 1680x1050 is widescreen, 16x9 IIRC. :D

Even more confused bout ram now, any1 got any suggestions?

Like that lian-li case m8, where ya gettin it?

I'l prob pre-order a 8800GTS, just waitin for some proper comparrison reviews against the GT

Read a few threads elsewhere & these Patriots are great value for money & oc very well, they in stock on newegg also. They are highly recommended on other forums & can hit 1066 MHz with 4-4-4-12 timings, and 1180 MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings. I'd be happy with anywhere near that. 2x2Gb kit too, just what i'm lookin for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,401 ✭✭✭✭Anti

22" dell wfp and a 520/620 corsair psu.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

Cheers anti, which Dell monitor? dont want webcam, so rule that 1 out. That 620W Corsair is exactly what i have in mind, have had no probs wit the OCZ only that its noisy.

    Want a 22" monitor? I'd advise this one: "LG 22" LCD L226WTQ-SF, 1680x1050, 3000:1, 2ms, DVI-D/VGA, Silver/Black". It's down to €287 EUR from €309 EUR.

    I have the LG 20" LCD L204WT TCO-03 Black/Silver 1680x1050, 5ms, 2000:1, DVI/VGA and I am delighted with it! Couldn't recommend them enough...
