Is anyone having a problem accessing http://del.icio.us from an NTL broadband connection?

I have 3 pc's in the apartment which cannot access it. Two apples and one windows machine.

    It's driving me nuts!

Can anyone using an NTL connection check if the above link works for them.

Can't access the website with NTL

    Can ping the server
    Can do a tracert
    Can access via a proxy

Ok, so looks like they are.

del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site owned by yahoo.
It's very useful for sharing bookmarks etc.

Have no idea why ntl would block it.

There's a problem with a couple of majorish sites on NTL. It looks like there's an issue inside either NTL or whichever upstream providers they use which is affecting HTTP connections. Anyone care to have a deeper poke around with a packet sniffer to see if they can spot anything strange?

Are they allowed to just start blocking soulseek like that? I'm contemplating moving to a different ISP because of this

They blocked the ports to access PaddyPowerPoker the other day and it really frustrated me as I was bored out of my mind! But it was only blocked for a day or so for some reason...

Can't wait to get my Magnet back in a few weeks! They're the best! :D

I was wondering wtf was going on with del.icio.us. Now I know. This better be temporary, it's a ridiculous problem for a service provider to be having.

I get this on archive.org sometimes, as well as facebook sometimes
I suspect they're RST flooding (i.e using a system specifically designed to cut off certain connections and save bandwidth)

They are a bunch of poxbottles.

From my own experience I can't use:

    http://del.icio.us
    Geocities
    Zshare
    archive.org

and any site hosted by Yahoo.

I would try and contact customer support but I might as well post here for all the good trying to talk to NTL does.

Edit: Also, has anyone else noticed their IP with NTL has changed in the last few days? I used to have an IP of 89.100.xxx.xxx but now it's changed to 79.97.10.xxx

Stil got the same problems with sites though. Obviously.

    This site works for me.

To the person wondering about their IP, mine is still in the 89 range.

Noticed this myself too. Modem logs show the network seem to have gone Thursday morning at about 2am, and since then I've had a 79.xx.xx.xx IP address. And speedtest.net shows my recommended server as Limerick

Mine was showing Limerick too but it's Dublin now - via http://ip-adress.com

Speedtest recommends Limerick as the test server though. Weird.

Comcast have been accused of using this in the USA against P2P traffic. I've never heard of any other provider using it and they'de have to be *really* insane to use it against major websites.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity and technical faults.

I think you're on to something there. 79/8 is a previously unused block that was released October last year and would still be blacklisted by routers that have not had their bogons lists updated since then. Telefonica Deutschland reported problems using IP addresses in this block last December.

Eircom have had similar problems with allocations in 83/8:

I reported the same problem on this forum a couple of months back. It took a few weeks to get NTL to unblock it (on the phone they just told me they don't block sites but they promised twice to have a technical guy call me, which did not happen).

It worked fine for a while but, as you say, del.icio.us is once again being blocked. So I am giving up on the site. I have moved all my bookmarks to Google Bookmarks.

Incidentally, I had a similar problem with secure pages within worldpay.com recently that I am choosing to blame on NTL too.

A new UBR(router) was install recently which is causing the problem. They know of the problems and are working on them.

How do you know this?? Do they have an eta as to when it will be fixed? Also I think this problem is not just a recent thing, its been around for a while.

I work for them. Don't know the time scale christophicus I'm not involved in getting it sorted.

Ok, the really strange thing is that I can ping del.icio.us but I can't tracepath to it. It can't hop past
    17: ge-2-1-0-p141.msr1.re1.yahoo.com (216.115.108.19) asymm 11 162.405ms

I can get by telnet but the connection is immediately closed, but I can't tell what point does it:
    aoife@anovadea:~$ telnet del.icio.us 80
    Trying 69.147.76.140...
    Connected to del.icio.us.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    Connection closed by foreign host

So, I'm getting very mixed signals, I can ping, but tracepath won't give me a good path, but I can connect by telnet to the server but am immediately disconnected (which explains why we get a white page as opposed to "No server found" pages). Yet, I can access most other yahoo services.

This is annoying. Has anyone contacted NTL about this yet?

    Aoife

Thanks a million lad. I tried to surf to that site and it bust my NTL BB connection. Straight away the modem lights went crazy and I couldn't ping anything. When I reset it It wouldn't get an ip address and stayed off. It only got back working this evening.

Actually - wasn't this posted before because I think I did the same thing then too.

I think snowbat hit the nail on the head. What other sites are people having problems with.
